May 2023 Update! Candy also known as Candice (when she needs an appropriate professional name) will be 6 years old in a few weeks! She was relinquished at the age of 5 when her family moved and couldn't take her with them. Candy has trained her foster Dad and claims he is 'easy'. She has at least 100 toys with squeakers she surrounds herself with daily. She enjoys watching him put all her toys away each night. She is a 60lb bedbug that snuggles up like playdough when it's bedtime.
Candy is potty trained except when it's chilly out! She doesn't want to get her dainty feet wet or cold so her foster Dad goes out with her. She LOVES lounging on the couch watching all types of sports on TV, is drawn to heat vents, the fireplace and sun spots. She's like a canine sundial.
Candy is very food motivated and knows several basic commands such as sit, paw, and down. Candy does not care for all the wildlife that comes to the window where all the bird feeders are at her foster home. She is extra smart and attentive which is helpful in some contexts and not so much in others. She can open doors that are left ajar, she will stretch out in front of doorways so she doesn't miss her people leaving. She's a velcro girl but hasn't shown any destruction when left alone for appropriate periods of time. Candy must be the only pet unless she is adopted by a very experienced caregiver that can help her feel safe and relaxed around other dogs and windshield wipers. Yes, it's true, she does not appreciate windshield wipers going off when riding in the car. She rides very well except when the wipers start attacking the windshield. For everyone's safety, she needs to be properly confined in the vehicle if wipers will be in use. Her previous owners stated she lived with young children and a cat. Because she is able to let herself out doors that are not properly shut, she needs vigilant adult humans and a fenced yard. She is a strong girl despite her casual lounging around-the-house appearance. She will need yard-only exercise unless her adopter has experience handling very strong dogs that could pull if they see a squirrel or other animal on walks. Candy's adoption will come with a complimentary training session! She's extra smart, very in tune with humans and can sniff out a squeaky toy in any secret hiding place!

Happy Feet Pet Rescue (Lansing, MI) is a foster-based rescue which means each of our animals are in home environments. We strive to pair each of our rescue animals up with the most appropriate homes. Our adoption process involves an adoption phone interview, reference checks, vet checks, an application review, and meet and greets. We do not adopt any dogs that are expected to be over 50lbs to anyone living in an apartment/condo setting. We do not believe in declawing cats, and we only adopt our cats as indoor cats. If you are interested in meeting one of our pets, please complete an adoption application. Or consider becoming a dog/cat foster parent (this is a wonderful way to try out multiple personalities and different animals before committing to one long term). Please visit our website for further information and all of our applications: www.happyfeetpetrescue.com. **We do not respond to the Pet-finder Inquiry emails.**
