The Animal Rescue Project (www.animalrescueproject.org) is committed to the best possible veterinary care for the pets it rescues and it is looking for adopters who will be similarly committed. Adoptions are NOT first come, first served! We seek to choose the best fit for the approved adopter and pet. Please understand that these animals are still new to us and their needs and requirements can change at any time as we learn more about them. We will try our best to get them updated online as soon as possible. All dogs and puppies are given a general check-up when they enter our program. They receive medication to remove any intestinal parasites (worms), fleas, and ticks they may have. Dogs greater than six months of age are checked for heartworm. If heartworm positive, the Animal Rescue Project treats the disease. Dogs and pups receive all age-appropriate vaccinations for distemper, and dogs greater than four months of age are also vaccinated for rabies, in compliance with State of Michigan laws. All dogs are also microchipped. Most dogs and older puppies are spayed or neutered before adoption. In the case of puppies not old enough to be safely sterilized, a $50 deposit is required at the time of adoption and is refunded to the adopter with proof of sterilization. The Animal Rescue Project requires every adopter to establish an active relationship with a veterinarian no later than 10 days after adoption. Adopters will receive a plan for routine veterinary care at the time of adoption and are expected to work with their vet to complete the plan.

Lake was hiding under a mobile home near Nolin Lake, hence the name. He is one of the sweetest kittens and that is truly remarkable because he had been living outside by himself. Smart, active Koby is a 9-month-old purebred Border Collie. At about 38 lbs now, we think he will mature to around 40-45 lbs. He is active and adventurous, and looking for a super active family that will involve him in their daily lives. He wants to be with his people as much as possible. Koby is a fan of life and all it offers. He’s willing to try anything and is always enthusiastic. Make no mistake – this boy is all herding dog. He has strong herding instincts and will attempt to rein in things that move. For this reason, we require a secure fence for Koby unless his people have experience keeping a dog safe on leash while also providing a safe place to exercise off leash. Dog parks are not a fit for him. Experience with Border Collies or other herding dogs is a must for Koby’s forever family. He can live with older kids that understand what it’s like to be herded. He would love to live with another playful dog, or he could be an only dog if his family provides consistent ongoing socialization and safe engagement with other dogs. He would probably herd, but not harm cats. Koby is crate trained and prefers to sleep near his humans. A high-drive boy with lots of energy, Koby requires regular daily exercise and continued desensitization to passing cars and noises. Koby would love to be someone’s constant sidekick in life and needs a job to keep his busy mind active – he needs more than romps in the backyard and neighborhood walks. Koby got an A+ in basic obedience and beginning agility classes and looks forward to a lifetime of new experiences with his human. Koby would enjoy life as an active pet who plays barn hunt, takes herding lessons, or ensures his human stays healthy as a running or hiking partner. Koby has a tilted pelvis and is working to build strength with exercises that he enjoys. This includes daily stretches which are now part of his routine, easily incorporated into mealtime. Periodic chiropractic checkups are recommended as he matures. High impact sports like competitive agility or disc are not likely to be part of his future but he would love (and needs!) the engagement and teamwork that comes with lower impact activities. Can you believe this beautiful girl spent 5 years in a southern shelter? Rosie is a beautiful staffy mix who is gentle, laid back, and super easy to get along with. This sweet girl is friendly with kids. She absolutely loves the little ones and would do well in a family where she can be spoiled with the kids. She just wants to be a part of activities and daily life. Rosie has gotten along well with not only large dogs, but small dogs as well. She hasn’t shown any aggression toward other dogs, but with her medical condition, we are hoping Rosie can be the only dog in the home so she can get the love and attention she needs. Rosie loves to spend her days relaxing in the garden or taking a quick swim in the river. She is a wonderful dog and deserves to have the very best life possible. Rosie recently had some lumps removed and biopsied, and unfortunately was diagnosed with a low-grade cancer. Rosie has had a hard life, and our team has opted out on putting this sweet girl through chemotherapy. We want her to live her days in peace and comfort. Despite Rosie’s diagnosis, she has so much life in her. She goes running a couple times per week and loves to hike. All the while, she’s equally happy to have lots of lazy days. She loves to tuck herself in the blankets and take long naps, too. Rosie is estimated to be 8-10 years old and weighs 50 pounds. Our goal is to find this sweet girl a compassion hold adopter where she can be spoiled and live her days out the best that she possibly can. Our vet determined she has two years left, and chemotherapy would take much of that time away from her. Her adoption fee will be waived to the right adopter when they come along. Meet Taz! Check out this cutie! Taz is a special boy that has stolen the hearts of everyone he’s met. I mean, just look at those teefies . At just 3 months old, he’s already been through a lot. When we brought him to our vet for suspected mange, it was revealed that the hair loss on his face is actually from chemical burns. We are unsure if he was mistreated, or if he was just being a mischievous puppy that got into something he shouldn’t have. The burns are healing well, and it doesn’t slow him down one bit. Taz is an otherwise normal, healthy puppy, ready for a family of his own. Taz already knows how to sit, walks well on leash, and is super eager to please. He loves his humans and wiggles his little butt every time he sees someone even remotely close to him. Taz loves other dogs and would most likely do well with cats and children, especially if raised with them. Taz is the absolute sweetest and can’t wait to find his forever home!
