Barn Cats

We have rescued several cats from locations where their life was in danger. Unfortunately, some of these cats are not socialized, and even though they will not make good pets, they will be fantastic mousers. We are looking to place them in barns or other safe areas where they have shelter and a job to do. These cats have been spayed/neutered and have received their rabies shot. Please call (276) 694-3598 or e-mail clovercatrescue@yahoo.com for an application.

Micaela Marie

Michaela Marie is 10 years old and weighs 12 lbs. If you’d like to meet this pet and apply for adoption, please visit our website www.safeplaceforanimals.com for our current shelter visiting hours and details on our adoption process. • Safe Place for Animals does not do same-day adoptions and adoptions are not on a first come, first serve basis. • Adoption applications are available for submission in-person only. • Applying to adopt a pet from Safe Place for Animals does not guarantee adoption approval. Each pet is unique and they all have different personalities, temperaments and needs. So we work very hard to make sure that each pet is matched with the individual or family that is going to be the best fit for both the pet and adopter. Therefore, Safe Place for Animals does not do same-day adoptions and adoptions are not on a first come, first serve basis. Each pet receives many applications so we thoroughly review each one, including doing veterinary checks and personal reference checks. There is no definitive timeline on the adoption process; it can vary by pet. Applying to adopt a pet does not guarantee adoption approval. We will contact you if your application has been approved. Those not approved may not be contacted due to the volume of applications and the time limitations of our volunteer staff. However, you are welcome to contact us to follow-up on your application status if you have not heard anything by a week after applying.

Fred

I’m a work in progress, a potential work of art awaiting the brush strokes of love, patience, and understanding that will enable me to make that final leap of faith into someone’s life, and arms. My earliest months were spent with my mom, Betty, and my brother Dino fending for ourselves and deprived of the love and companionship of people. As a result, I am a bashful, although very gentle, fellow. My journey to trust has reached the point where I sidle up to visitors, greeting them with little chirped meows and hoping for some gentle caresses and soft scratches under my chin. I’m as soft as the finest talcum powder with the nattiest white vest, cute as a button pink nose, and luminous copper eyes that make a new penny look tarnished in comparison. I very much like other cats and for the right artist I’m going to be a priceless masterpiece. Date of Birth: 3/30/11 Date of Arrival: 8/31/11 Physical Characteristics: DSH Orange Tabby with White, Male History: Fred came in with Dino (who we believe is his brother), Betty (who we believe is his mother) and her five little kittens. The property owner does not like cats and wanted them all gone! CFC came to their rescue. Fall Update 2024: My good volunteer friend Scott says I am in better spirits and slowly but surely climbing out of the physical and mental hole I spiraled down into when I had my ear mite issue. While that was some time ago, still the effects are most lingering and I'm working hard to restore my best pet self! To that end, Scott has noticed me more and more outside on the catio enjoying the warm temps on my shoulders and maybe my belly area. I'm a little more mobile and might even utter a few "mews" of hello when I see Scott coming my way. While I am more apt to lone and be by myself, still I might periodically seek companionship from kitties Belinda and or Patsy. In the big picture, I'm doing better and folks are happy to see the good ol' Fred being restored to his great splendor. FRED Winter Update 2024: Is it pushing a more senior status or the longer term effects of an ear hematoma that has changed Fred's interaction with his humans? We're not really sure but he was just never 100% the same following his painful ear condition. His good human friend Scott reports that he's more quiet now and no longer actively asks for attention. Scott still seeks out his orange friend and will softly pet him when he's relaxing on the top of a condo and reassure him that all is well. Fred has a more quiet, sedate feel to him but happily has more recently forged a friendship with the amicable Patsy Cline kitty. Fred is sadly experiencing issues with his other ear now so we're hoping that will not drag on for him. His new blood panel looks great so that's always positive news. The other kitties in the room respect and enjoy his company so we'll be relying on them in part to help our good friend over this newer health hurdle.

ROAR

Excerpt from Website: *** Rescue Operations for Animals of the Reservation (ROAR) - Many residents living on reservations face extreme poverty. The animals are not always a priority when it comes to food, shelter and healthcare. On the Navajo Nation alone, the problems created from over-population of stray animals are IMMENSE. One estimate cites at least 1,500 stray dogs roaming the Navajo Nation alone. One cites 4 times that many dogs and hundreds of cats. The Navajo Nation alone shelters and eventually euthanizes about 8,000 dogs a year. About only 400 are adopted from shelters. Our goals are to support Reservation programs that spay/neuter/vaccinates animals on the Reservations, educate the community on proper care of animals and assist animals by providing supplies that let animal groups care for more animals. In 2010 we supported spay/neuter clinics and provided veterinary programs with thousands of pounds of food and other other items necessary to reduce animal health risk and related risk to humans. *** Please link the Website to your own and to your signature line?! * http://www. nrcprograms.org/site/PageServer?pagename=roar_index * (connect the www. to the website name) THANK YOU and bless your heart. May the year bring you much happiness, success and prosperity in all of your endeavors! (Picture above IS OF AN EXAMPLE of how some real N.A. Indigenous Camp Dogs WOULD APPEAR LIKE. They differ in every way but are of about medium to large size, color, markings and coat lengths varying. Erect, half or lazy ears.Very sweet dogs however very independent as well. SIMILAR appearance could be that of the ENGLISH SHEPHERD. In the distant past now they would breed with the roaming wolves. Just as the Arctic dogs -Sibes, Alaska, Canada and Greenlandic sledge dogs would. In some areas still do!) ~~~~~~~~~~~ -----P.S. -dear pet lovers out there; a deeply sincere REQUEST: IF you would happen to know/see a dog living outside, please please take it PERSONAL; IF it appears to not have ADEQUATE, proper and SURVIVABLE and/or live in a questionable living arrangement; Please REPORT it to your closest county animal control and humane society shelter and even make/let LAW ENFORCEMENT aware, if an officer happen to have a heart-of-gold for pets, he/she might help! :-/ . PLEASE let the dog/cat/pet be HEARD, at least. If you SEE or HEAR of one in need, rest assured; YOU WERE MEANT TO! Please HEED IT, you would surely SAVE A LIFE living in painful misery and HIGHLY possibly a short cut-off one! 'May heaven count you one up'! 🙂 Happy SPRING one and all! ...geez, AT LAST..huh?! :-)) .. WHAAT a winter we had..!! ~~~~~~~~~~~~

Rafe

My name is Rafe, and I had a very rough beginning. My sister and I were dumped in the country, and we had no food to eat. We tried eating many things, including nails. One was found in my sister's stomach. She fought a very hard battle with many things going on in her tiny body, but she didn't have the strength to survive. Her name was Leilani, and I miss her. I'm trying my best to live a full life to make up for her very short one. I'm a happy boy, and I enjoy my life here at Red Fern, but something is missing. I have good friends who love me, but I don't have a family of my own. I'm an energetic guy, so I'm looking for someone who doesn't want a couch potato. I'm also looking for someone who doesn't have cats! Those guys are NOT my friends, and I believe the best defense is a good offense! I'm as sharp as can be! I'm hoping you'll enjoy spending time with me and maybe teaching me a few tricks. I think I would be a good agility dog! I'm a good size at only about 25 pounds, and I'm as fast as the wind! I love challenges that are quick and active. Maybe even Frisbee? Wouldn't that be fun? Rafe's adoption fee is $200.00. If you are interested in being Rafe's person, please visit www.redfern.petfinder.com and submit an adoption application. You can also email tlc.crowley@gmail.com if you have any questions about Rafe and our adoption process. Thank you!

FOSTER HOMES NEEDED NOW!

Duffy's Friends needs foster homes for dogs and puppies! We provide everything that you will need to foster - food, crate, leash, collar and flea/tick/heartworm prevention! You provide the love and the care while we find the dog (or occasional cat) the wonderful home it deserves. Without people like you we could not continue to help these deserving animals. We would love to speak with you about fostering so please send us a note at duffysfriends@gmail.com. We have a foster to adopt program but you must apply to adopt so we may qualify the home. Otherwise, we discourage our foster homes from adopting the pet they are watching. So if you think you may want to adopt the pet, please let us know that you are a 'foster to adopt' situation. You can check our adoption criteria on our site. For instance, with our small dogs we request that all children in the home be over 12 years of age. We look for homes that have fenced in yards. We can not adopt to those in apartments or condo's - the potential owner must be a home owner and have a history of owning a pet in her or his name. Thank you and we hope to hear from you. Mittens

Born Aug 2011 Mittens was originally adopted from Pet Welfare as a kitten. She enjoyed her quiet home for several years with a single retired person. Sadly, she was returned to Pet Welfare after her owner needed to enter a care facility. She is looking for a quiet home where she can get lots of attention. Mittens would do best in a home where she won’t be left alone for long periods of time. She's a lap cat! Other pets ok as long as they have a mellow temperament, and you allow a proper introduction.

Baby2, FL

Baby2 is a fun and loving but at the same time incredible shy, therefore she will need a patience owner and understanding pet owner, that lets her adjust at her own pace. She is not found of being picked up instead she likes to give love from the ground level, or lets you pet her while she is sitting down or laying on a pet bed. She will do best in a quiet home with no small children and neither dogs. She currently lives with other cats.
