Colby

Colby is a typical chi. He can be happy one minute and feisty the next. He is a bit stubborn as we have had problems getting him crate trained and we can't guarantee house training. He is good with dogs of all sizes and cats but can have moments of attitude.

Zeus

Zeus is still an energetic boy who wants to be loved even though he is now an older dog. He will need a patient owner willing to love and work with him as he hasn't seen a lot of other people than the ones at the rescue. I wouldn't recommend cats or small children.

MISTY BLU

For The Cats' Sake This beautiful sweetheart has been with us for the majority of her 6 years. That long?!?! Seriously. How is this striking lady still waiting for her people/person??? She was originally very shy but has become quite friendly when approached calmly. When you come to her, she really enjoys getting head rubs and being pet but she doesn't often seek out attention. She enjoys the indoors but also loves soaking up fresh air on the catio. Come meet this friendly introvert at her Flint Hill foster home and see if this green-eyed beauty is the one for you. ADOPT "MISTY BLU": https://jotform.com/81848821130152 We do not have a fixed adoption fee at For The Cats' Sake, but instead ask for a tax-deductible donation to our group of at least $80. On average, we spend $200 to cover food, litter, spay/neuter, testing, vaccinations, flea treatment, deworming and any vet care or medicine needed. Adopters donate $80 or more, as they choose, to cover cat's expenses, and help our rescue continue to treat and find homes for more cats. This flexible policy makes it possible for people to adopt more than one cat or multiple barn cats. CAT EXPENSES: Spay/neuter $75 to $150. Rabies and FVRCP $50. Test for FiV and FeLV $35. Microchip $25 (adopter registers for life for $30) Wellness check at vet $50. Flea treatments and deworming $40. Any additional vet care or medications needed. Food and litter $40 upwards, depending on time of stay. TNR and a whole lot more... 11/2/24 3:23 PM

Chance

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Can you imagine spending your entire 10 years of life in a rescue with no real family to call your own? Chance came to the rescue when he was just 6 weeks old, when he was found with his six siblings. They were dumped by a day care center when they became sick with the parvo virus. Two of the litter were already in the final stages when we rushed the litter to the hospital. Unfortunately, only Chance survived, starting his lonely journey. Chance spent almost two weeks battling Parvo. When he returned from the hospital, he had to spend an additional two weeks in quarantine. He missed out on 4 weeks of critical socialization time. He trusted his team at the rescue, but he was very wary of potential adopters. This limited his chances at a real home for years. Five years ago, an older Shar Pei named Chula came to the rescue when her owner was found dead. Chula's daddy was a close personal friend of our founder, who bailed Chula and her brother Booger out of the pound. They had been placed under a bite quarantine for protecting their dead owner when the strangers came to do a wellness check. They were brought to the rescue where they could decompress. Booger was adopted, but Chula wasn't understanding how she went from pampered housedog to living in a kennel by herself. A decision was made to place her with Chance and see if they could make a connection. The transformation of both dogs was incredible. Chance became sociable and would allow us to leash him and take him for walks with Chula. Chula enjoyed getting out of the kennel and playing. They started spending the day in our exercise areas playing and running. Chance even let new people approach him and walk him. He loves running next to the golf cart. Chance only has a few more years if he is lucky. We really want to see him get the opportunity to know what it is like to have a family. He never poops in his room, he always waits to go outside. Ideally, we would love for him to find a home with Chula, who is also very well behaved in a home. Unfortunately. we know it is rare for two older dogs to find a home together. Who is the special someone that will see CHANCE'S photo, fall in love, and give him his FIRST REAL HOME? He can be very timid around new people, but given an opportunity, Chance will gain confidence and show you his true personality. Chance's ideal home will be an older family without small children and no cats or small dogs. He enjoys playing with toys and Chula in the rescue's exercise yard. He would love and needs to have a home with a fenced yard with perhaps a companion dog so they can play and explore the yard together. Chance is a handsome dude with his dark, black fur and white spotted chest. He currently weighs Weighing in at 80.4 pounds. Are you the hero that Chance has been dreaming of? If so, fill out an application at www.adoggie4you.org to arrange a meet and greet with Chance. Chance's adoption fee: $250 Chula's adoption fee is $250. If you would consider adopting both, the adoption fee would be $300.

Foster Homes Needed

Every minute matters when it comes to rescuing a Shih Tzu. We may get a short notice that someone needs to surrender their dog or a puppy mill dog needs a temporary home. We can't help if we don't have families willing to foster, and we are always in need of more foster homes! If you live in the Minneapolis/Saint Paul area and want to help save lives, please complete either our online Foster Sign-Up or download a word version here: http://www.northstarshihtzurescue.org/foster/ (please note: neither dog pictured are available to foster or adopt, both are in their forever homes) NorthStar Shih Tzu Rescue exists to benefit both Shih Tzu and Shih Tzu blend dogs and the people of our community. We operate as a no-kill rescue that provides rescue and adoption services, and meaningful outreach programs in order to advance the welfare of these companion animals, to serve and educate our community, and to make a positive, loving impact on the lives of both. NorthStar, located in Excelsior, MN, actively works to rescue Shih Tzu and Shih Tzu blend dogs from dangerous environments and shelters with the ultimate goal of placing them in loving, permanent, adoptive homes. We rescue unwanted, abandoned, and abused dogs. We have them vaccinated, micro-chipped, spayed or neutered, provide other medical care, and rehabilitate them in carefully selected foster homes. We also serve as a resource to our community and all pet owners by providing education and information on the benefits of adopting an animal in need as well as responsible pet ownership, including the importance of spay/neuter, good nutrition, and positive behavior training. We strive to increase public awareness about companion animal overpopulation, commercial breeders, and to offer solutions to end the killing of adoptable animals. We work in alliance with local animal shelters, pounds, other rescue groups, and humane society organizations to ensure these animals are not forgotten. 9/21/24 8:35 PM

Flash

Flash has been with me for quite some time and I hate to let her go because I have fallen in love with her. She was abandoned by her owners and left with a chain around her neck so tight that it had to be cut off. Her partner in crime is Fred. They are a bonded pair and must go together. She is crate trained. During the day she and Fred share an outside kennel. They have lots of energy. So a big fenced back yard would be ideal. She is spayed and ready for her forever home. Please take her into your heart. Age 12 yrs old Adoption Fee $350 ~Little Nugget's Rescue covers GA and surrounding states for adoptions. Lady Bird

Lady Bird is such a sweet baby. Full of energy. Loves to give kisses. She gets along great with MALE dogs only. Pulled from the shelter pregnant. She is independant and relishes being left alone until she wants a hug. She is food agressive. And could be a biter. If you have the time to work with her, she will make a great companion. ~Little Nugget's Rescue covers GA and surrounding states for adoptions. Serena

Serena is a lab mix, 10-11 years old. Serena came to our shelter in 2014 and gave birth to 12 puppies. All of Serena's puppies have been adopted but Serena still resides at the shelter. Serena is wonderful with humans, both young and old but does not do well with other dogs or cats. Serena is now a senior and has mellowed alot over the years. She would LOVE a home, with no other pets, where she can lay her head on a warm pillow, sit by the screen door and catch some rays of sun or just relax on her bed next to you while you watch your favorite movie. She still has a lot of spunk and loads of love to give! Her pups are living their best lives and all we want for her is to know what its like to be in a home and be loved before she crosses the rainbow bridge. Are you ready to offer a senior that chance? Adoption donation of $150 includes age appropriate vaccinations and spay/neuter. Murray County Humane Society is a registered 501c3 non-profit organization and donations are tax deductible. *** Breed determination in most cases is often based on the limited history typically available for most rescued animals. We try to be as accurate as possible with the information we have and the Rescue assessment of the pup.Click here to watch a video of Serena. 10/28/24 9:18 PM

Shadow- I Can Be A Friend To Your Young Cat!

I am such an angel I am told, and I am a lap-sitter, too! Shadow is my name and I have a white halo marking on my head, too! I prefer to hang back in the shadows and watch the others play and then dash into play with the rest of them! I just don't want to be the first to be tackled and be on the bottom! Nuzzling and being close is high on my list and I sit on laps, too. I have a very pretty black coloring, too. I am affectionate and attention seeking once I warmed up to you. My ideal family would be someone that could carve out special lap time when they are home. I would be fine the hours that a person works, but, please when I am young come right home after work. You may call and ask about me; 949-759-3646

Royce

Beautiful TICA cat show award winner!Royce is a big cat that is reminiscent of the breed Maine Coon. He is a very beautiful boy and has a sweet personality. He likes to be held and carried and near the one he loves. He has lived in multi-cat households and is a dominant male. A cat savvy pet-parent would be needed to introduyce him into another multi-cat family. Since he is so very affectionate it would be nice for him to have a home without other cats so he could get all the attention. Royce was adopted from our organization when he was a kitten by a couple that showed Maine Coon cats. Sadly, the woman developed a severe respiratory disorder and had to give up all her show cats and Royce. That is why Royce has been shown at TICA cat shows and won two awards. He is available to be met in the caregivers home.
