Cici

Cici was picked up by animal control in a rural area we help with her siblings. No one came to the shelter to claim her, so she was going to be euthanized. One of our awesome fosters met her and couldn’t leave her behind. She brought her into her home to save her life and give us time to find her a wonderful home. Cici has been in our care for a month and now she’s ready for adoption! Cici has been with children as young as 4, and she loves them. She is a calm dog and does great on walks. She will stay by your side on and off leash. She is very smart and easy to recall. She already knows sit, down and back. She has also done very well with all other animals she has met. Our vet estimates that she is 9 months - 1 year old, and she weighs 26 pounds. Cici has been spayed, vaccinated for DHPP, bordetella vaccinated, rabies vaccinated, microchipped and is current on flea/tick and heart worm prevention. Cici will arrive in the PNW on 11/16. If you are interested in adopting, please fill out the application found here: https://throwadogabone.org/adopt We respond to all inquiries. If you submit an inquiry, please check your spam folder.

People visiting the shelter in person or viewing animals on our website will note that all of our dogs are labeled as “Mixed Breeds” unless they have been DNA tested or are surrendered to the shelter with paperwork. Any potential breeds listed here on PetFinder are not assumed to be accurate and are merely a starting point for people to be able to search for a dog who may visually resemble a breed they are interested in. We feel that the best matches are made based on a dog’s individual personality and recommend families come meet our animals in person and/or utilize our Foster to Adopt program to see if that dog is a good fit for their home. Darla the Dashing Girl

This cutie is Darla. She is currently 2 pounds, 6 weeks old, and we think they may be a German Shepherd mix, but with rescue its a guess! What matters most is that they are adorable and are one the MOST desperate in the entire US based on statistics for where this puppy is from. Shelters in this area are having to euthanize puppies. So, this puppy needs you! If you choose a puppy from this rescue, it saves her life as well as the life of another in its place. Darla is playful, sweet, curious, and cuddly. She loves to play with her siblings and take lots of naps. Eat, sleep, play, repeat- such is puppy life! Darla is still young so they will need a family that can commit to training, socialization and all the dedication puppyhood requires. Her new family will need to continue with potty and crate training and daily exercise. We require a commitment from adoptive families to crate train their new puppy. When old enough, they will be perfect to go on walks and hikes or show off around your neighborhood. You will be guaranteed to get lots of kisses in return from your new best friend! Nova

This beautiful girl is Nova. She's about 2.5yrs old & 35lbs. Nova was originally surrendered to us at the age of 6 months old when her family was moving & they could not take all 3 dogs to their new home. She had received no vetting & little socialization at that point. She was terrified when she left the house for the first time, but she did warm up nicely. We got her vetted, socialized, and ready for adoption. She then spent a little over a year with her adoptive family, but they have since decided that they cant keep her & Nova has been returned to find a home yet again. This poor dog was completely failed at socialization during her first few months of life. She was friendly but nervous when she first came to me. The family that adopted her did take her to obedience courses so she has had some training but it seems that they did not spend time socializing her to be a confident dog so she continued on that path of insecurity. They said that she became a dominant dog after the age of sexual maturity. They noted leash aggression when walking past other dogs, fear of large dogs, and distrust of strangers, but they said she's a loving dog in the comfort of her home with her owners. When I picked up Nova to bring her back to the rescue, she did bark & lunge at me. After that first day though she has settled into a routine here and not shown any further aggression. I expected that greeting since I had been warned of her being reactive to strangers. Luckily this environment is much better for her anxiety than the previous home, so she has not been triggered again after that meeting we had in a public space. Nova was tense for about a week but she was begging for attention by day 3, jumping up on me with excitement. She can get a little overstimulated & I have been sure to remain as cautious as possible, knowing she had the potential to bite if pushed beyond her threshold. After a few more weeks went by her tension has lessened more & more & she really just wants affection. She has even met other strangers with no reactivity. She simply needs a calm, steady home with a dominant owner to lead her. Nova has been introduced to other small/medium dogs & she wasn't aggressive towards them. However I would not be comfortable sending her into a home with other pets since she has been known to get defensive around other animals. She does well on leash walks (in our country yard not in view of any other people) & she goes into her kennel without issue. I believe a huge factor to her being so tense at the previous home was due to the owners being in a neighborhood & walking her down a public sidewalk regularly. They said that she gets leash aggression when other dogs passed by & they knew she was uncomfortable with all the distractions in that environment. This being a regular stressor may have contributed to her being extra defensive of strangers coming into her home. I'm not sure how calm or fearful she may act towards guests when she settles into a new home. She needs a relatively calm / mature home to feel safe & continue on the path of improvement. We will not adopt her to a family with children under 12 yrs old. Nova needs a private backyard to have her own space outside without distruption from neighbors. Regular guests (even children) should not be an issue as long as the owners are prepared to do proper/slow introductions AND put her into a crate if she shows signs of being uncomfortable in order to prevent a possible bite. She likes her crate & will feel safe if thats needed when company is visiting. We hope to find someone with the right behavioral understanding and/or willing to obtain professional assistance if needed, for her to have a happy life. Her adoption fee is waved to the right person who can provide for her. The original owners who surrendered at 6 months old did not give any genetic / breed information. We believe her to be mixed with either dachshund or corgi as she definitely has the short legs & longer body. Her fur is similar to a longhaired dachshund or even a golden retriever, but nothing is known. She is full grown at 35lbs. Located in St. Cloud FL. Transport not an option. Must meet here in person.
