I also love car rides, stuffed animals, and playing in a fenced-in backyard. I am completely house trained, crate trained , and am very intelligent. I know what sit, lay down , and stay mean, but I could use some more training to work on those commands and anything else you want to teach me. I love to run and play; I have a whole lot of energy, but I also love to cuddle, give kisses and be loved by my human companion . Basically, I just like to be doing what my people are. I am very cautious of new people. I really prefer to come check you out first, and I really rather you don't pet me until I know you will treat me with kindness. I may have to meet you a couple times before I know I can trust you . I can't tell my friends at Last Hope what happened to me before I came to stay with them, but all they know is that it takes me a while to trust people and be comfortable in situations. Because of this, I should not be in a home with young kids or teens. My dream home would be with an adult family who is familiar with my kind of challenges and who has a physically fenced in yard. I also want 1 other playful dog around my size (50 pounds+) or bigger to play with (I can play a little rough so they need to be tough like me) and a family who is very patient with me while I adjust to new people in my life. I am a very loyal companion and I just want to please my humans! Once I know I can trust you, I just want to be around you and will be your shadow as you go through your day. I have also had my DNA tested! I am officially an Australian Cattle Dog/Harrier mix! Last Hope requires that all pets be kept as indoor pets, be altered and current on vaccinations and preventatives. I like it here at the adoption center where I'v called home for a few years now. I had a pretty rough time before I came to Iowa. I am missing some hair on my back end, it happen Egypt and we don't know what happened but could be the reason it takes time for Barclay to warm up to new people. I am all healed up and would love home with understanding people. I would do best in a quiet home with my few people that understand and love me. I will need on going care for my skin so I don't get sores. The volunteers keep my skin nice and moisturized and away from the sun so I don't get sun burns. I know lots of commands, sit, down, shake and I am crate trained. I love to play with toys too! I like playing with other dogs but I need a home with no kids. Everyone says I am a very handsome boy. If you are interested in Barclay we ask you to become a volunteer at the Last Hope Adoption Center so he can get to know you! Barclay has stranger danger and takes time to warm up to new people. Barclay will need an owner who has previous experience with dogs who have behavioral issues. Mr. Tuttle is a Yellow Bellied Slider turtle. They can live for 25+ years and may grow up to 8 inches in shell length. If you need further info than provided, please contact Julie from Heartland Small Animal Rescue, which can be found on their webpage. This turtle requires a part aquatic, part land habitat and a 75 gallon or larger tank. They need a heat and UVB source as well as a calcium supplement (turtle bone). Water should be warmer, around 78 degrees and heat should be 10 degrees warmer than this. Mr. Tuttle does like green or red leaf lettuces. He is a beautiful turtle and very relaxing to watch swim and bask in the light. Charles loves his toys and he is a big baby at approximately eight years old and 70 pounds. Charles is housebroken, crate trained, barks ALOT so he needs a lot of space. Charles is neutered, current on vaccinations and heartworm preventative. Charles appears to be good with indoor cats however, will chase cats relentlessly if outdoors. He would be best in a home with no cats, or a home where any cats are strictly indoors, FURS holds monthly adoptions stands where those interested can meet our four-legged crew available for adoption. Our next adoption stand will be on November 9th, 10 am - noon, at the Southern States in Midlothian. PLEASE SHARE! UPDATE! We just got home from the veterinarians office. Now spayed. Smokey felv/fiv - neg., got her vaccine, profender, revaluation and was x-rays she was just full of food. Smokey very young they gave her a date of birth of 10-31-16 making her a year. The Babies are on tract to have been born when they thought they were 10-28-17. Smokey will be spayed 2-5-18. All her beautiful Babies have all been adopted. Smokey is a sweetheart. She purred and make bread the hole time at the vets office. We got a call that a feral mother cat had new born kitten up in a loft of a carport. We are overwhelmed and we're not taking any cats/kittens at this time but we could not let them freeze. They went on to tell me another rescue said they would come get them and they had been waiting 2 days and they were afraid they would freeze to death. They went on to tell me that several months ago that this same rescue took Smokey's kittens but did not come and catch her left her behind to get pregnant again. The woman is get ready to have major back surgery and they told her to climb up in the loft and take pictures. Well they are safe now, Smokey in not a feral cat she was just afraid of people because she was homeless and several people chase her off and did mean things to cats. YET CONTINUED TO TAKE CARE OF HER BABIES!!Sky was born 1/15/2017 and is a Stunning Gray & White Tuxedo girl.This Beautiful Girl was abandoned with her babies, and was desperately looking for a safe place as the water was rising during Hurricane Harvey. As she put them on the porch one by one, a kind hearted lady decided to bring them inside her home during the storm. She contacted us to take them because her landlord said they had to go.Paws found a wonderful Foster Home for Sky and her babies until they could be available for adoption. This mother cat was ALWAYS looking out for her three little ones and is now needing a forever family of her own.Sky is very sweet and loving once she knows you can be trusted. She is also playful because she is still so young herself.11/02/2017 Update: Sky was spayed and microchipped today. However, we found that her story of being abandoned was not all that happened to her. She was shot, and not only does the bullet remain close to her spine, we could also see that part of her knee had been shattered, which is why her right leg splays outward. She also now has spondylosis of L7-S1 vertebrae. All of this had to be right before the flooding started because she is still healing. In spite of everything that happened to her, she continued to save and care for her babies! Sky was an INCREDIBLE MOM!!! Now that her babies have all found their own home, it is her turn to have a FUREVER Home of her own.

It takes some time for her to warm up to you but once she dogs she is basically a Velcro dog, never leaving your side. She is a medium energy level dog who could use a walk a day but would be fine missing a few here and there as long she could romp in the backyard a little. She's come a long way from her days of living a life outside or in a trashed out vacant home in the D laying on dirty piles of old clothing in a dark and waterfilled basement. She was unfortunately neglected for the majority of her younger years so she really needs a patient adopter who can focus all their love on her. Princess loves hugs and belly rubs and enjoys walks on lead. she's crate trained and continues to be worked with some reactivity when she in in the crate. Gemma is a female tortie. She arrived with her badly injured almost feral mother and what appeared to be at least two litters of kittens that mom was protecting. Mom didn't make it, but she got her little ones off to a good start. All of Gemma's litter mates have been adopted, but Gemma is still with us. She was very shy when she first arrived, but has become more outgoing and willing to play and eat treats from your hand. Gemma recently graduated from kitten room 8 to room 3. Come in and play with Gemma. Perhaps you will be the one who puts the finishing sparkle on this precious gem.

Opal is a beautiful brown tabby and white, between 6 and 7 years old. We trapped her while she was pregnant at a local factory. She was feral when we trapped her and she generally will not let us get near her, although when she goes to eat with the other cats we can pet her. We are looking for that rare person that will give Opal a warm, safe home with the understanding that she may never be a lap cat. She is fine around other cats, but she has never been around dogs and we do not recommend her to be around children due to her nature. She is spayed, vaccinated, and has tested negative for AIDS and leukemia. Odin is a beautiful brown tabby and white neutered male, approximate birthday 9/1/2015. He came from a bad section of Norwich, CT where he suffered unknown trauma to his left eye. The veterinarian says it shouldn't cause any health issues and does not need to be removed. Odin is still a little insecure around people, but he does let us pet him and he gets along fine with other cats and our three dogs. He would be okay with children who respect and understand when a cat needs space. He is vaccinated and has tested negative for FIV and FeLV and recently had bloodwork and a dental procedure.
