Sweety

Hi, I'm Sweety, and I'm about 11 years old. Do you prefer cuddling up by the fireplace to a night out on the town? Me too! It's hard out there for us introverts. I've lived my entire life in the shelter, and I'd really like to get taken home by a nice human. Sure, I'm a little shy, but I have a big heart. In fact, I once adopted a whole litter of orphaned kittens. If you adopt me, and I'll adopt you right back. I am spayed, up to date on shots and negative for FIV/FeLV. 10/31/24 3:20 PM

Fritzi

Hi I'm Fritzi and I'm about 7 years old. One thing you can be sure of: I will never bite you - because I have no teeth! Other than that, I'm a healthy kitty. My dream job would be librarian, because I like quiet places, and I'm a big reader. I'm sorry did I say reader? I meant eater. (Wet food only, you know why.) I keep getting overlooked because it takes me a while to warm up to new people. But give me a little time, and I'll be your new best friend.

ANNABELLE "Annie"

Name: Annabelle "Annie" Sex: Female Age: 9.5 years old Breed: Boxer/Pittie Mix Weight: 60lbs Compatibility with other dogs: Good with playful, submissive dogs Compatibility with cats: Not good with cats, will chase Compatibility with kids: Great with kids House trained: Yes Spayed/Neutered: Yes Activity level: Moderate Obedience training: Well trained Personality/Behavior: Crate trained, Likes toys, Lap pet, Playful, Affectionate, Eager to please, Goofy Requirements: Meets the whole family; Active home; No cats in the home; Either no kids or older children in the home; Someone to continue daily valley fever meds and allergy medication MEET ANNABELLE aka Hurricane Annie!!! Sweet ol' Hurricane Annie! She's been with the rescue for 9 years awaiting her forever home. She's only had one meet and greet the entire time (and that didn't go very well given how rambunctious she was when she was younger). Miss Annie has turned a new leaf in her older years. She's sweet, friendly, well trained, dog friendly (as long as the other dog is playful and submissive) and is great with kids. She loves to snuggle in the bed, get "zoomies" but isn't a total hurricane anymore. Now, she's more of like one of those wind tunnels that come out of nowhere quickly with a burst of oomph but then are gone quickly and you're wondering what happened. Annie loves to go on walks and is slowly learning that we don't have to be in a race, but she gets most of her exercise from swimming and running around the yard with her foster family. *Annabelle is being treated for valley fever which includes daily AM/PM medication. She also get's an allergy shot every few months. For more information on valley fever: https://wagwalking.com/condition/valley-fever If you would like to meet Annabelle, please visit our website for our adoption application, www.underdogaz.com or send email to info@underdogaz.com 11/5/24 2:25 AM

Clyde

Meet Clyde! You may remember Clyde's sad story of cruelty and neglect. We were shocked when we saw his pictures and heard how he had literally been strangled with a belt by his so called owner. His strangulation caused a massive deep cut all around his neck and caused the blood not be able to circulate resulting in his face ballooning until he was unrecognizable. He was confiscated from his owner and charges are pending. In the meantime, we brought him into our rescue and have nursed him back to health. We could tell he didn't know what it was like to be treated kindly, but after talking to him a bit and giving him love, he started wagging his tail. He is BEYOND sweet!! Check him out HERE playing with his friends at daycare! We are happy to report that with the help of the vets, we provided pictures and info on the extent of his injuries to the Harris County DA's office. His former owner was prosecuted and justice was done! Clyde is about 4-5 years old and a Cattle Dog mix of sorts. He's friendly and fun-loving but cautious with new people until he knows you mean him no harm. He does great with most other dogs that are medium to large in size. He is high-energy, so he would do best in an active home and with another active dog that can play, and play, and play with him! He's not especially fond of cats, so a home without cats is a must. Clyde is just the sweetest, although he does get his feelings hurts easily when corrected, so he is a quick learner and pleaser. Makes training a piece of cake! Clyde is doing fabulous in his foster home with his 2 canine siblings, but he would really love to find a forever home where he never has to worry again! Contact us at info@scoutshonor.org if you can help! No surprise here in Houston and considering the condition he was in, Clyde is heartworm positive, but don't worry. Scout's Honor is taking care of that for him and if you want to adopt Clyde before he's all clear (which would be great!) we will continue to cover the expense of his medicine and next heartworm check. We can explain it all but he's going to be just fine. Check out Clyde playing with his friends at daycare HERE Scout's Honor Rescue is a 501c3 whose primary focus is rescuing dogs from the euthanasia list from high kill TX shelters. MISTY BLU

For The Cats' Sake This beautiful sweetheart has been with us for the majority of her 6 years. That long?!?! Seriously. How is this striking lady still waiting for her people/person??? She was originally very shy but has become quite friendly when approached calmly. When you come to her, she really enjoys getting head rubs and being pet but she doesn't often seek out attention. She enjoys the indoors but also loves soaking up fresh air on the catio. Come meet this friendly introvert at her Flint Hill foster home and see if this green-eyed beauty is the one for you. ADOPT "MISTY BLU": https://jotform.com/81848821130152 We do not have a fixed adoption fee at For The Cats' Sake, but instead ask for a tax-deductible donation to our group of at least $80. On average, we spend $200 to cover food, litter, spay/neuter, testing, vaccinations, flea treatment, deworming and any vet care or medicine needed. Adopters donate $80 or more, as they choose, to cover cat's expenses, and help our rescue continue to treat and find homes for more cats. This flexible policy makes it possible for people to adopt more than one cat or multiple barn cats. CAT EXPENSES: Spay/neuter $75 to $150. Rabies and FVRCP $50. Test for FiV and FeLV $35. Microchip $25 (adopter registers for life for $30) Wellness check at vet $50. Flea treatments and deworming $40. Any additional vet care or medications needed. Food and litter $40 upwards, depending on time of stay. TNR and a whole lot more... 11/2/24 3:23 PM

Chance

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Can you imagine spending your entire 10 years of life in a rescue with no real family to call your own? Chance came to the rescue when he was just 6 weeks old, when he was found with his six siblings. They were dumped by a day care center when they became sick with the parvo virus. Two of the litter were already in the final stages when we rushed the litter to the hospital. Unfortunately, only Chance survived, starting his lonely journey. Chance spent almost two weeks battling Parvo. When he returned from the hospital, he had to spend an additional two weeks in quarantine. He missed out on 4 weeks of critical socialization time. He trusted his team at the rescue, but he was very wary of potential adopters. This limited his chances at a real home for years. Five years ago, an older Shar Pei named Chula came to the rescue when her owner was found dead. Chula's daddy was a close personal friend of our founder, who bailed Chula and her brother Booger out of the pound. They had been placed under a bite quarantine for protecting their dead owner when the strangers came to do a wellness check. They were brought to the rescue where they could decompress. Booger was adopted, but Chula wasn't understanding how she went from pampered housedog to living in a kennel by herself. A decision was made to place her with Chance and see if they could make a connection. The transformation of both dogs was incredible. Chance became sociable and would allow us to leash him and take him for walks with Chula. Chula enjoyed getting out of the kennel and playing. They started spending the day in our exercise areas playing and running. Chance even let new people approach him and walk him. He loves running next to the golf cart. Chance only has a few more years if he is lucky. We really want to see him get the opportunity to know what it is like to have a family. He never poops in his room, he always waits to go outside. Ideally, we would love for him to find a home with Chula, who is also very well behaved in a home. Unfortunately. we know it is rare for two older dogs to find a home together. Who is the special someone that will see CHANCE'S photo, fall in love, and give him his FIRST REAL HOME? He can be very timid around new people, but given an opportunity, Chance will gain confidence and show you his true personality. Chance's ideal home will be an older family without small children and no cats or small dogs. He enjoys playing with toys and Chula in the rescue's exercise yard. He would love and needs to have a home with a fenced yard with perhaps a companion dog so they can play and explore the yard together. Chance is a handsome dude with his dark, black fur and white spotted chest. He currently weighs Weighing in at 80.4 pounds. Are you the hero that Chance has been dreaming of? If so, fill out an application at www.adoggie4you.org to arrange a meet and greet with Chance. Chance's adoption fee: $250 Chula's adoption fee is $250. If you would consider adopting both, the adoption fee would be $300.

Foster Homes Needed

Every minute matters when it comes to rescuing a Shih Tzu. We may get a short notice that someone needs to surrender their dog or a puppy mill dog needs a temporary home. We can't help if we don't have families willing to foster, and we are always in need of more foster homes! If you live in the Minneapolis/Saint Paul area and want to help save lives, please complete either our online Foster Sign-Up or download a word version here: http://www.northstarshihtzurescue.org/foster/ (please note: neither dog pictured are available to foster or adopt, both are in their forever homes) NorthStar Shih Tzu Rescue exists to benefit both Shih Tzu and Shih Tzu blend dogs and the people of our community. We operate as a no-kill rescue that provides rescue and adoption services, and meaningful outreach programs in order to advance the welfare of these companion animals, to serve and educate our community, and to make a positive, loving impact on the lives of both. NorthStar, located in Excelsior, MN, actively works to rescue Shih Tzu and Shih Tzu blend dogs from dangerous environments and shelters with the ultimate goal of placing them in loving, permanent, adoptive homes. We rescue unwanted, abandoned, and abused dogs. We have them vaccinated, micro-chipped, spayed or neutered, provide other medical care, and rehabilitate them in carefully selected foster homes. We also serve as a resource to our community and all pet owners by providing education and information on the benefits of adopting an animal in need as well as responsible pet ownership, including the importance of spay/neuter, good nutrition, and positive behavior training. We strive to increase public awareness about companion animal overpopulation, commercial breeders, and to offer solutions to end the killing of adoptable animals. We work in alliance with local animal shelters, pounds, other rescue groups, and humane society organizations to ensure these animals are not forgotten. 9/21/24 8:35 PM
