Dahlia

Posted on 12/2/17, and pictures were updated on 7/27/21. Dahlia was transferred to me on 8/31/17 from the Rebel Ranch Rescue after the founder, Amy Allen, was murdered on 8/21/17. Dahlia was one of 4 dogs still there that other rescue groups chose not to take. She was scared and tried to chew the leash the first attempt to get her out of her dog pen, so a second leash was used as a muzzle. She was also hiding in a hole under her dog house. She had a male dog in the dog pen with her named Artie, who seemed to be attached to her. After being in a dog pen for about one week. I decided to start letting Dahlia and Artie out to run, and they would chase each other around and then run back into the dog pen when done. Dahlia also LOVES to get in water. After another week of this, I decided to leave the gate open all the time. They eventually moved to another section of our property. Dahlia started climbing our 4 foot perimeter fence and running around the wooded area, but Artie has stayed on our property and made friends with the other dogs here, so he is not as attached to Dahlia as I first thought. Dahlia got to where she came up to me to get pet, so it was easy to catch her when she was outside our property. I put her in a small secure kennel at first with some can food, so she knew that going in that kennel meant can food when I needed to catch her again. I now have her in a secure 6 foot tall dog pen, and she loves attention and getting pet. She first found a way out through the chain link on top by getting on top of a dog house, but the chain link is now secure to the railing. She needs a lot of space to run with a tall secure fence that can't be climbed over or dug under, and a source of water to get into. It would be nice if she could get a job to do, since she is very trainable, and it might help keep her at a home. Dahlia was already spayed when transferred, and heartworm negative on 9/1/17. D.O.B.: ? August 2013 Weight: 47.6 - 9/1/17; 70.2 - 12/4/20 $25 adoption fee.

Artie

Posted on 12/2/17, and pictures were updated on 7/27/21. Artie was transferred to me on 8/31/17 from the Rebel Ranch Rescue after the founder, Amy Allen, was murdered on 8/21/17. Artie was one of 4 dogs still there that other rescue groups chose not to take. He was scared and tried to chew the leash the first attempt to get him out of his dog pen, so a second leash was used as a muzzle. He seemed to be very attached to his companion Dahlia who shared his dog pen, so was happy to be in a crate next to her for the drive back to our property. After being in a dog pen for about one week. I decided to start letting Artie and Dahlia out to run, and they would chase each other around and then run back into the dog pen when done. After another week of this, I decided to leave the gate open all the time. They eventually moved to another section of our property. Dahlia started climbing our 4 foot perimeter fence, but Artie has stayed on our property and made friends with the other dogs here, so he is not as attached to Dahlia as I first thought. He is still skittish of people, but loves treats and can food, which has made him feel comfortable enough to come up to me on occasion to let me pet him. At first I had to throw treats to him, but now he will take them from my hand, and especially will come for a spoon of can food. He needs a home that will be patient with him, other dogs to play with, and a large fenced area. He likes to get on top of dogs houses and other things to lay down on, and knows where the treats are, so will get into the bags if not sealed up. I was told that Amy called him Smarty Artie. He also has an underbite, which may indicate he is part Boxer. Artie was adopted on 8/1/20 to a young boy for 1.5 months. He was returned due to being terrified of storms, and in the house alone. He can break out of a wire crate, and try to escape a house if someone is not with him, so he would do better with someone who is home a lot. He is also terrified of gunshots and fireworks. Artie was already neutered when transferred, and heartworm negative on 9/1/17. D.O.B.: ? 2014 Weight: 45.4 - 9/1/17; 64.6 - 12/4/20 $25 adoption fee.

CC’s reasonable adoption fee includes her nice cage and a generous care package. CC is one funny gal. She insists that her new caretaker be a man. CC also likes sports and the news channels. CC prefers that her new handler be retired or someone who works from home. She only prefers dark-haired adult men over 30 years of age. *(If you don't fit this description, please don't inquire to adopt CC.) CC’sreduced adoption includes his cage and care package. River

Husky Mix Male 9 years old 68 lbs. Golden / Hazel eyes Red-White-White fur coat Hi, my name is River. I'm an older husky mix, and I have been at Free Spirit for years now, patiently waiting for a new home. People often tell me I'm beautiful, with a unique look and color that stands out. I absolutely love going for car rides, where I'm very well-behaved, and I enjoy long hikes in the woods, taking in all the sights and smells. Playing fetch and exploring in my yard are also some of my favorite activities. I know all my commands and take treats nicely, making me a great companion for someone who appreciates a well-mannered dog. My dream is to have a fenced-in yard in a quiet, low-stress home where I can relax and feel safe. While I don't get along with cats, I might be a good friend for another dog, and I'd be happy to meet them to see if we could be pals! I like kids if they respect my boundaries and allow me to get to know them. However, if younger children tease me too much, I can get stressed. I'm generally very quiet and well-behaved, but I can have moments of anxiety when in a stressful situation. I need a family that understands this and will work with me to help me feel secure. If you give me a chance, I promise to be a loving companion in your home for years to come. I can't wait to find that special family who will appreciate all the love and joy I have to offer. ***If adopted, River will come with a six session training package to successfully transition to home life.*** Special Training: Free Spirit Siberian Rescue cannot make any guarantee regarding the outcome of any cat testing done. Poco

DSH Buff with Beautiful Amber Eyes ADULT MALE; Est DOB: 6/9/ 2015 ARRIVAL: 9/13/2016 HISTORY: Poco came to us through Community Cats Rescue. He was rescued from a hoarding situation in Fredericksburg, VA, and tested FIV+. People seem to be mesmerized by my eyes, which are the richest and most luminous amber shade they say they have ever seen. Insert blush of modesty here. Did I mention my great Yosemite Sam whiskers and lamb soft buff fur? It’s not uncommon for FIV kitties to have dental issues and I had mine, but ever since the vet took care of them I have gained weight and am called movie star handsome once again. I’m a flighty little guy at times and can be quite bashful with unfamiliar people, but as I cajole you for my much loved treats my shyness is replaced by flirtation and soft head bumps. By nature kindly and peaceful, I get along well with other cats. I may try not to show it but run your hand down my back and you’ll see that I really do enjoy human interaction and getting affection. In a room chock full of friendlies I may fly under the radar, but if you pay attention you’ll surely see me hanging out on the periphery, just waiting for a chance to share in the loving being doled out. I may be a bit of an introvert but beneath this unassuming exterior lies a whole lot of potential. Do come and say hello! Winter 2024 Update: Recently voted the most chill and sedate of kitties, Poco is the master snoozer and napper! It's a rare day that you might find Poco outside a poofy bed on the window ledge. This handsome, buff colored fella stretches out to great lengths in his bed...perhaps even with feet draped over the edge... and spends his days watching the shenanigans in the room. Poco is by nature a much more solitary being so he's mostly alone but seems content to have his space and his peace and quiet. Cat Volunteer Scott reports that he can sneak in a random pet or two...the temptation of touching his plush coat is pretty high... but any more and Poco is on his way to a more quiet spot, free of the humans! We always enjoy Poco's presence in R3 as do the other cats in the room. Fall 2023 Update: Poco unfortunately was just tagged to join the "Unwelcoming Committee '' in his room as we all know he's not a huge fan of most humans. He's a super tempting kitty to try to reach out and pet but alas, in most cases he's going to make a fast darting leap for safety and cover elsewhere. Volunteer Scott, having steadily worked with Poco for about 2 1/2 yrs now, reports however that it's possible for him to get in 1-3 pets on Poco and then "Poof," he's outta there! More recently, Poco has found companionship with Wawa, a newer and equally shy resident. The two of them position themselves in the same cat tree...always higher up and on different levels. One will alert the other to any human disturbances coming their way! LOL. Poco is healthy and in good spirits so it will be fun to watch him enjoy the pretty fall season with his new friend Wawa in his comfort zone.

Fuzzy Wuzzy

Mr. Fuzzy Wuzzy is a smart, strong cat and needs a home in which he will keep both his mind and body active. This goergous boy can become frustrated without enough stimulation, and needs an experienced adopter who can help keep him occupied. He has hyperaesthesia, which means that the nerves in his skin and back can easily become over stimulated, and he receives two medications to help manage those problems. He eats them easily in his food. He has had some behavioral problems with women before, therefore a home with a man only may be best. Fuzzy would be the perfect cat to learn agility, or to teach a variety of tricks. Because of his strength, and because he may play too roughly, we don't recommend he go to a home with children or other cats. Fuzzy is a very special boy, but he needs a very special home who can teach him appropriate boundaries, and give him the mental simulation he needs. Email CAHadoptions@gmail.com to learn more and meet this georgous boy.

Tyler (bonded to Connie)

I'm Tyler-the-Tiger! Just kidding - I think that I am pretty fierce and bad, but I am really a sweet, shy guy (about 4 years old as of 10-20), who likes other cats, is ok with dogs and would be great with 1 or 2 adults. I need to be adopted with my friend, Connie. When I was adopted on my own, I stopped eating until I was reunited with her. She is my special love. For more info, contact Pam at info@carsoncats.com

Cadfael

Cadfael was born in the woods and was rescued with his brother when they were several months old. He is a loving and social cat in his foster home, but shy with strangers. He likes to play, but frequently from a sitting or laying position. 'Couch potato' is a good description. Cadfael is a large, all black cat with medium-long hair. He needs small daily brushings to keep him looking his best (but he's not terribly fond of "spa" time!). Both Cadfael and Charlie like ot play with toys -- either with you or on their own. They swat small stuffed mice and plastic springs all over their house. Cadfael & Charlie were adopted as young adults, but weren't given enough time to acclimate to their new surroundings, since they had only been in a single home. He would do best in a quiet home without young children. He is good with other cats. Cadfael has always been a healthy and well behaved boy! Tonka was rescued by the Goodyear Police department after he was left tied to a motel parking structure.
