Queen Bee

Queen Bee aka Queenie is a loving girl who just wants to be with her people. She enjoys outings and playing with her toys, but is also happy to settle down and snuggle on your lap. Some say she might be big for a lap, but she disagrees. As her name implies, Queenie would love to be the "queen" of your heart and would prefer to be the only pet in the home. Not only is Queenie very smart and enjoys training and performing a job, she also has the looks and the heart to match. Queenie is a gorgeous lady with a lot of love to give. If you would like to learn more about Queen Bee, reach out to our adoption team today.

Aurora: video!!

**This bunny is fully vaccinated for RHDV** Breed: American Size: About 6 lbs DOB: Approximately DOB end of 2019 Reason in Rescue: This girl has been passed around a lot unfortunately. Someone took her in when someone else was going to “release her into the wild,” an almost certain death. She was then adopted out after we took her (and had her spayed). That adopter kept her four years and recently returned her due to allergies. Personality: Aurora is without a doubt one of my favorite buns here. When she came in she was terrified. You couldn’t touch her, you couldn’t pet her, and don’t even think about picking her up as she would literally have a wild, running around panic attack. With lots of love and patience (and a spay!) she is a different bunny. She is very opinionated and likes things her own way and will grunt when you go into her cage and is still not a fan of being picked up, but she loves being petted now. And if she trusts you, she allows you to hold her. She would do anything for a face rub and she is just such an awesome girl, full of personality! She would do best in a quiet home with no dogs (she hates them and will charge and try and bite them). She is fine with cats, but she does not want to be bonded to another bunny. No small children, as well as someone who can work with her and not keep her in a small cage (she does better in a larger space). She is awesome with her litter box. Friends: Aurora is much happier as a single bun. Requirements: Must be adopted as an indoor animal, with an as large as possible plastic bottomed cage or puppy pen (minimum 4' x 2'). Adoption process: An adoption application must be filled out (http://www.judgespark.org/adoption-application.html), and approved by us. Then we will arrange a meeting time to see the animal of interest. A home visit is required prior to adoption which can be waived if pictures or video are sent of where the bunny will be living. Suggested adoption donation is $100 which includes her spay, vaccine, and microchip.

Turkey

Meet Turkey : Turkey wants what every dog wants-a safe and comfortable home where he can be loved. Türkey is estimated to be 7-8 years old and is most likely a Rhodesian Ridgeback mix. He found his way to us as a stray and was never re-claimed. Turkey is an active and incredibly smart boy who likes to run in the yard, go on hiking outings/rides, pool time, and cuddles. Turkey knows basic commands, such as sit, give paw, talk (aka speak) and walks well on a leash. He is a very loyal and loving boy with time and patience and would be most comfortable in an adult-only home. He can experience nervousness around new people. Within our community, he has grown leaps and bounds. He has shown that he is a fun, loving pup. He has enjoyed meeting new people with the comfort of his person and commands given by them. Turkey will flourish where he can be the only pet but seems to enjoy learning and meeting at his pace and with time and patience. Due to Turkey being in the shelter for some time, he may require more than one meet and greet with an approved potential adopter. If you are interested in adopting Turkey, please fill out an adoption application on our website. Dog application: https://lebanonhumane.org/dog adoption-application/

Bonnie

If you are interested in adopting this horse, please submit an Adoption Inquiry via AAE's website; No texts please: https://www.allaboutequine.org/how-to-adopt.html. Adoption fee subject to change based on training; see website for all current information. Some AAE welcomed Bonnie from the DreamCatcher Wild Horse and Burro Sanctuary in August of 2019 to support their ongoing herd reduction efforts after the long illness and passing of their Executive Director, Barbara Clarke in November of 2016. Bonnie is an older mare, and winters at DreamCatcher can be difficult. We were told Bonnie was placed in sanctuary at DreamCatcher after failing training attempts with five different trainers. She is not trained under saddle. Bonnie’s a sweet and social mare, and she is also a moody, opinionated, obstinate mare, mostly enjoyable and sometimes not. She enjoys grooming and attention until she doesn't, which is typically when asked to do something she'd rather not. Bonnie has Cushings and a substantial fly allergy. It's hard to keep her comfortable at times (she's very itchy and rubs). She gets a daily carrot pocket with her Cushings meds. A cooler climate would be ideal for her. During summers, she is on an antihistamine twice a day, and it helps her tremendously. We have repeatedly tried fly sheets and masks, but she destroys them within days. Lycra fly masks have been a winner! Fly spray, war paint, and swat, they all help, but she needs them applied daily (once to twice a day) during fly season. Bonnie is all mare. She's dominant around food, and she's bossy in a herd. She usually connects well with one or two other horses, usually the boys, and they usually have the perfect-love-hate relationship. ?Bonnie is current with hoof and dental care, vaccines and deworming, and she has a microchip. Bonnie needs daily meds for Cushings, and daily antihistamines and extra effort with fly prevention during fly season. Diet-wise, she is on an alfalfa/grass hay diet supplemented with daily senior pellets. In general, there is a lot of activity around AAE including foot traffic in and out of paddock/pasture areas, mucking with wheelbarrows, grooming and care activities, and weekly farrier visits. There are various resident animals, as well as various wildlife in and around paddock/pasture areas. AAE is on a busy road with high speed vehicles, trucks, and sirens. Tractors and trucks are used in and around pasture/paddock areas. Therefore, horses at AAE are accustomed to a more active environment as opposed to a quiet/sterile environment.

Martina

If you are interested in adopting this horse, please submit an Adoption Inquiry via AAE's website; No texts please: https://www.allaboutequine.org/how-to-adopt.html. Adoption fee subject to change based on training; see website for all current information. Martina and her very young filly, Valentine, came to AAE from the DreamCatcher Wild Horse and Burro Sanctuary in March 2018. Valentine was only days old. AAE had been supporting DreamCatcher's herd reduction efforts since April of 2017 after the long illness and passing of their Executive Director, Barbara Clarke in November of 2016. Martina was thin and hungry with baby in tow, but she knew where to go. She showed up at the DreamCatcher barn with Valentine after not coming down for the Winter from the large acreage in the Fall. Sadly, winter conditions at the sanctuary are fierce (for California, anyway), and AAE got a call. Martina is a BLM branded mustang. She appeared to have minimal human contact when she arrived. Martina was a great mom, but not the least bit interested in humans. She was given lots of time to be a mom and replenish her body. Initially, she was very confident, and avoided humans like the plague. With intermittent rounds of human interaction, her curiosity and interest in humans grew. Martina spent several weeks at the Monty Roberts International Learning Center as a part of the Advanced Course for Horsemanship. She was very resistant to humans, so her stay was extended. They continued gentling efforts for weeks, and made some progress, but she still wasn't too interested in humans. She also had tremendous difficulties with any handling around her ears. After returning to AAE, she has had intermittent handling with intermittent breaks. She's made very slow progress, especially with limited interaction in light of our move and transition to Pilot Hill. Martina is very happy in her herd. She can be approached and haltered in a small space, with patience and a slow approach. Her hooves can be trimmed with sedation. She's nervous and protective, but she tries to understand what's asked of her. Though she is coming around, Martina has been challenging, and she needs a very dedicated person experienced with mustangs to understand her and continue her progress. She will likely do better in an environment where she is out of a herd, has few distractions, and she's working daily with her own person. A calm, quiet, pocket pony type might help build her confidence. Her person should have no agenda, and no timelines, simply establish trust, build confidence, and take their relationship wherever it goes. He or she must be ok with a non-riding companion horse, if that's the best she can do. Martina's filly, Valentine, was an amazing little, well, big girl. She was fiery at first, and learned to avoid humans with mom, but as her stay at AAE extended, she evolved into a really lovely big girl. She loved playing with the other kids in the herd, she loved human interaction, and she was an all around great little "package"...confident, curious, athletic, and a little character. She was adopted into a very loving home after her family lost one of their beloved horses. She has another horse she pals around with, and she's very loved...and huge!! Martina is current with dental and hoof care, vaccines, and deworming, and has a microchip. In general, there is a lot of activity around AAE including foot traffic in and out of paddock/pasture areas, mucking with wheelbarrows, grooming and care activities, and weekly farrier visits. Lavender

Lavender is an extremely sweet dog. She loves people. Lavender needs to be an only pet as she tends to get anxious around other dogs, which leads to issues. Lavender is about 50 lbs and 4-5 years old. She is spayed, current on vaccines, and on slow-kill heartworm treatment. Lavender is currently being fostered in South Alabama, but we can arrange a meet and greet closer to you. Send us an email for more information. Blue

If you are interested in adopting this horse, please submit an Adoption Inquiry via AAE's website; No texts please: https://www.allaboutequine.org/how-to-adopt.html. Adoption fee subject to change based on training; see website for all current information. Blue is a 2010 Virginia Range (NV) mustang gelding who came to AAE March of 2017 after a request for assistance from the Virginia Range Wild Horse Sanctuary and Hidden Valley Wild Horse Protection Fund. Blue had been carrying around a large seven pound mass of proud flesh (granulation tissue) over his left rear fetlock/pastern area for some time. Although he had been haltered and handled some previously, he was not halterable when he arrived at AAE. We knew we had a big job ahead in helping Blue. Before we could evaluate the mass, he had to be gentled, haltered, and readily halterable, and his legs/hooves had to be readily handleable for frequent bandage changes after surgery. With a straightforward mustang, it's usually not a big deal, but Blue had some substantial fear/trust issues. Initial efforts with befriending and haltering him were lukewarm. Thanks to Dr. Stolba and Team at LBEMC (throughout Blue's journey), he had made enough progress that we were able to sedate him, radiograph the bony area beneath the mass, and collect tissue samples for biopsy. We wanted to make sure there was not an underlying reason for the mass other than an old injury before getting too deep into corrective measures if they would be for naught. It was not an easy feat. Even with sedation, he kicked quickly and with purpose. Radiographs and biopsy detected no obvious issues, so the work continued. Weeks in, Blue seemed to have had a reaction to something and developed a mysterious condition that turned out to be a form of vasculitis. He developed sores/ulcers throughout his entire mouth. The first layer of tissue pulled off with any type of pressure. They were horribly painful. Though his history and symptoms didn't suggest it, we had to quarantine him and test him for vesicular stomatitis. Thankfully, it was negative. We scaled back our efforts to reduce his stress and allow him to heal. But, the mass was growing and oozing, and flies and yellow jackets swarmed the oozy mass. After several weeks, he improved and we’ve resumed course. He would take a few steps forward, then a couple steps back. Finally, after many weeks with nominal results, we had a marathon day. We worked until we broke through. After six hours, he accepted handling and touching all over, and we practiced bandaging and removing bandages, over and over. The next day, our learning curve was much shorter, and the next and the next, until finally, we could halter, touch all over, and pick up his left hind and handle it all over. We practiced with bandaging materials again and wrapped it up, and he was a gem! We scheduled surgery, and in late August 2017, he lost nearly seven pounds in a matter of minutes. The mass had a narrow base and truly looked like a big brain. Imagine what that must have felt like with every move. Needless to say, it was done! However, the mouth lesions returned. There were more and they were worse this time. They were on his body, around his anus, and on his sheath. Poor guy, these things were awful, and they appeared to be an autoimmune issue. At one point, we questioned his prognosis and quality of life, but before jumping to conclusions, we biopsied the tissue. We ended up with the vasculitis diagnosis. The best thing was, we changed up his meds and the sores began to heal. The area where the mass was removed was beginning to heal. In the meantime, the next test came when it was time to change his first bandage. With a bit of sedation, it went fairly smooth, but cleaning the lesion was a little challenging. But wow, it looked amazing! Such a tremendous improvement. It was like a victory in and of itself, even though not healed. Healing progressed nicely! After several bandage changes, Blue was getting resentful of the needle for sedation, so we tried without. It went well with cleaning a few times, but oddly, after a few times, he didn't like it when placing the medicated bandage over the lesion. It seems he was healing, and he could feel the area again. He stomped the bandage off, over and over. The stomp was a little intimidating, but really, he was only trying to get the "big white bug" off his leg. He didn't kick out or kick at. His stomp was purposeful in knocking the bandage off his leg. Unfortunately, we couldn't keep the bandage on, so we had to go back to sedation for a bit. Eventually, we could remove the bandage, clean the lesion, and replace the bandage without issue, without sedation, thankfully. Healing continued. By November 2017, the lesion was almost healed, but there was a small area where the granulation tissue was persisting, so it was trimmed off. By January 2018, the lesion had nearly healed again. Blue made tremendous progress. However, as the months went on, the small area persisted and started to grow again. We lasered the area and biopsied for a third time, and this time the biopsy revealed a sarcoid. They are persistent little buggers!!! ?We tried some different medications over the months, but nothing resulted in complete healing, and by Fall, we decided to laser again; however, by November 2018, the sarcoid was growing, it was removed, and another course of treatment began with new medications. Blue stood quietly for bandage changes every two to three days. As of mid-February 2019, Blue's lesion appeared to have healed, we continued applying an antiviral cream daily for several weeks, maybe months. So far, so good. The lesion is scarred (about a silver dollar-sized area with no hair growth), and his fetlock remains enlarged from lymphatic scarring. He's sound, just a bit awkward looking with the swelling above his hoof. Over time, it has reduced and looks only slightly swollen. He's healthy, happy, and in much better shape than when he arrived. He continues to have challenges with trust, mostly when introducing new things, but he continues to show progress, one baby step at a time; though he has a pull away issue that comes and goes. He has had this from the beginning when in big space. Blue is always looking for his Plan B escape. He loves his carrots, and he will respectfully do almost anything for a bite of carrot. He also enjoys being "Uncle Blue" to the youngsters, a job he does well! ?Like we have said before, Blue's story is not an uncommon story in terms of the hurdles we cross with any intake with special needs. We have unexpected bumps in the road that require more than anticipated. For Blue, it was the bouts of vasculitis and later, the discovery of the sarcoid. For some, it's colic; for others, abscesses, lacerations from tree branches or scuffles with others. We can't plan for these things, but need the resources to handle them when confronted. We are grateful to have had the support of our AAE community to assure we can manage most any unexpected issue along the way. Blue is available for adoption only to the perfect, forever home. He needs a person that is mustang experienced, extremely patient, and has no expectations other than providing a safe, caring home. Keep in mind, he lived on the open range for years, and he does not enjoy confinement. At AAE, he lived mostly in a herd environment on acreage until 2021, when he developed laminitis in pasture. Now he's housed in a smaller pasture/paddock where we can bring him in for hoof and dental care, as well as all the other basic needs. He is somewhat social, but still skeptical of humans. Given the choice, he'd prefer a free-roaming life with occasional visits to two-leggers. Blue gives his feet for cleaning, and he is ok with the farrier when trimmed in a small paddock. Blue has learned very basic groundwork. He is still always looking for Plan B, an escape. He can be touched and handled all over, but continues to have a difficult time relaxing and enjoying it. He's pretty good with his hooves, but the front right can be an effort for whatever reason. His leg is checked regularly for any recurrence of his sarcoid. Fortunately, we are still sarcoid free, and his scar is about the size of a quarter. Blue needs much more confidence before moving forward with any saddle training. Continuity and consistency will be key in building his confidence and advancing his skills. Blue is up to date with dental and hoof care, vaccines, and deworming, and he has a microchip. He's laminitis prone, so he will need controlled housing where he won't be on green grass 24/7. Blue is current with dental and hoof care, vaccines, & deworming, and has a microchip.

Gemma

Meet Gemma! Gemma is a lab/pit mix who is FULL of energy. She loves to play with toys, run after balls, and go for long walks. She would make the perfect companion to an active female home who wants a dog who will do everything with them! Gemma is NOT good with cats and has a strong prey drive towards animals, so a home with no other species is a must. Gemma also requires a slow introduction to new people, ESPECIALLY MEN! - we believe as she continues her training her loving nature will shine through to include all people but right now she is still too inexperienced with having positive interactions with new people. Gemma is crate and house trained, and walks well on a leash! Gemma had a rough start and some traumatic experiences that no dog should ever have to go through. She needs the PERFECT home with breed experience and someone willing to go the extra mile to let her Awesomeness shine through!!!!

Coolidge

Seeking a new home! This is Coolidge on a play date with team member, Jaide, in Jaide's words. I brought Coolidge home to give him a break from the shelter. He is such a sweet soul! He loves his toys, especially the squeaky ones. He loves to fetch, but most of all he loves the human touch. He walks well on a leash. He sits so proud on his car ride. Coolidge is good in a house. He didn't even bother the Christmas tree.....Coolidge has been waiting behind bars for years. We are seeking an adult dog savvy home without other pets. Coolidge did walk calmly past other dogs on his walk today and Coolidge comes with free obedience training and he has a sponsor so he is no charge to the perfect family. Apply hartshelter.org or call 217.283.0779. HART Rescue, Hoopeston, IL. Hey folks my name is Coolidge and I need a home! I am a goofy fellow, I walk decent on a leash, and I sit and shake hands for treats too. I like to smile in hopes of landing a family of my own but I was a stray so nobody is sure if I have house manners, but I am pretty clean inside my kennel. I try to be a good boy but I am stressed and become too excited around the other dogs, so maybe I should be the only pet. The veterinarian guessed me at four years old but I chase a ball like a pup. Oh and my back legs are cow hocked, but I have no idea why. Adoption fee is waived and I am fully vetted. Apply hartshelter.org or call 217.283.0779.

Monty

UPDATE 7/16/20: Monty seems to be afraid of men. If he is adopted by a family, he needs some work to get him comfortable with male members. He is still active and happy cat though! We just noticed that he hides if men come into the shelter. UPDATE 6/7/20: Monty is a very active boy. It's so fun to watch him run from one corner of the room to another and play with all the toys and other cats. He would probably do great as a friend for another cat since he became buddies with other young kittens. He loves human attention but he doesn't seem to be a calm lap cat. He really does love to have fun. ______________________ Little Monty is a sweet boy who is really soft and gentle. He loves to be in your hands and purrs happily when you pet him. He is a little bit scared still because he just arrived at the shelter, but his soft side keeps coming out as soon as a human is around. We think Monty is going to be one handsome and perfect addition to any home. Monty is FIV/FeLV negative and is about 3 months old. Come visit Monty and our other cats during public hours. No appointment necessary.
