Barn Cats

Rock Creek Cats, a nonprofit in the DC area, seeks barn homes for feral cats rescued from dangerous situations. These cats are not tame and need a home at a farm, horse stable, or other suitable outdoor environment with shelter. All the cats have been sterilized and vaccinated against rabies, and now need an outdoor home where they can live out their lives. Be prepared for a brief period of adjustment. Moving to a new home is stressful for anyone, cats included! After a short stay in secure confinement, the cats will accept their new home and be chasing mice out of your barn with enthusiasm. The cats will be delivered to their new homes. Guidance and supplies will be provided during the relocation process.

Zena

Hi, I’m Zena. I’m a very sweet girl; all the volunteers at the shelter will vouch for that. I do have to get to know you a little because I’m a bit on the shy side, but it doesn’t take long for me to make friends. Also, I suffer from separation anxiety. This means that when you’re home with me I’m a great companion, sweet and well-behaved. However, if you leave me I must be left outside of the house in a fenced yard. It’s okay, I like being outside as long as I have some shelter from the extreme weather; a doghouse in the winter and shade in the summer. I also need a home with a 6 ft. privacy fence because I like to climb chain-link fences. I know the right person will come my way and then it will be just like in the movies, happily ever after. Are you my way to happily ever after?

Lucky Girl

Lucky Girl is a female Mountain Cur mix. She was tossed out of a truck on a dead end street, she wasn't eating when she was rescued and we learned she was terribly sick with Parvo. She went through several days at the hospital where she made a full recovery and is now hoping to find a nicer family than the one's that threw her out of that truck. Lucky is active, playful, and VERY smart. She does not do well with other dogs and would be best in a home as the only pet. Buzz

Buzz is a male Boxer/Bull Terrier who was born about 9/2011. He is up to date on shots and neutered. Buzz is an alpha male and doesn't do well with another alpha male, but is good with female dogs and submissive males. He is good with kids. Buzz showed up in the parking lot of a salon one day, he thought he needed a haircut, but the salon staff thought he could do without a cut and dry so instead called our rescue to come help with this cute pup. Can you be the home for Buzz where he can get regular baths and blow dry so he doesn't have to wander the streets and find a salon on his own.

Zooey

Hi - I'm Zooey. My mom named me after her favorite author, J.D. Salinger, and his book "Frannie and Zooey." I am all black, except for my white spot on my chest (of which I am very proud). I was left on the doorstep in a carrier at my adoptive mom's home and with my brother (who has been adopted) on an extremely hot day in the summer and left for 20 hours before we were discovered. We were hydrated, starved and saturated in our own urine. Our new mom fed, bathed and loved on us. We were so happy to be saved. I LOVE, LOVE LOVE to paly, kiss, purr and be petted. I am here to please. I am just SO happy all of the time to be on this planet. I am what-you-call-people-person, even though I am a feline and proud to be so. I have been told that I would be great with boys, even though I adore girls. I love to play, run about and then just relax and cuddle and purr. And petting and rubbing my face and neck is cat heaven. I am a wonderful cat and would love to be your next adored pet-friend.

Boone

Stats on Boone: **Updated info at the bottom** 65lbs About 9 yrs old Crate trained and housebroken unless another dog has marked somewhere...then he may try to copy them. And by "may try" it means he definitely will once or twice. He has his own Facebook Page! Become his "Groupie" here: https://www.facebook.com/boonegroupies?fref=photo He LOVES other dogs to a fault, and is submissive to most. There are only a few that seem to set him to snarking and they are usually dominant or pushy dogs. He is more reactive on leash than off with new dogs. He’s tolerant of kids but recommended for school aged kids and older as he will jump and play nip/kiss when over-stimulated which is usually received poorly by the 5 and under crowd. He has a big hard head and a lot of energy so things can get a little wild with small children. (He also loves little kid "stuff" and loves that little kids like to leave "stuff" for him to carry off and destroy. (Pacifiers, stuffed animals, and color crayons currently top his list of favorites...if you didn't know what you were missing, you'll be reminded when you're picking up poop in the yard...) Still has some puppy tendencies that he may never outgrow. Like doing zoomies around the yard and not coming when called during said zoomies. Toilet lids down. Otherwise it's fair game. Boone loves to lay on the bed and the couch with a toy. He's incredibly lazy when it comes to going outside when it's cold and he will do everything in his power to stay in bed. His current potty refusal record is 16 hrs when it was -20 degrees. He will hold.it.forever. instead of getting chilly! His jogging limit is currently .5 mile at a 12 min/mile pace. After 1 mile he may lay down and refuse to move until he decides he's rested. This may occur in the middle of a street or major roadway so be prepared to lift nearly 70lbs of dead weight. Boone is about 60% trustworthy with cats. He's not afraid to play hard with them and has unintentionally hurt a few. He very intentionally hurts chickens and rabbits and squirrels and shouldn't be left alone with them. Important last line: Boone will not be adopted out to a family without a securely fenced yard. He will test his boundaries with fences and can usually bust open unsecured gates. He loves children but will not be adopted out to a family with small children in the home. He's just too much dog for them. ———————- In 2019, Boone finally ate something that refused to come out so emergency surgery was conducted and he came out ok! They weren’t able to determine what it actually was though so your home must be very dog proofed! In 2020, Boone had a neurologic episode and was not found to have any brain tumors or inner ear issues but still walks a little crooked at times. It seemed to worsen during extreme temperature changes. Adoption fee is $275+tax

Lovely

Lovely is a gorgeous female cat who loves human attention. She will roll around all day long for attention. She especially loves her ear scratches and loves to be on the couch next to you! She does not like other cats in the least and lashes out on the humans if there are other cats around. She seems rather scared of dogs, too. We do not suggest young children in the household she is adopted out to as she has no warning. Lovely is currently at our shelter, so please feel free to stop in and visit her. She is in Rooms 2 and 3. Animal Aid Humane Society is located at 239 50th Street in Moline, Illinois and is open Monday and Wednesday 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM, Thursday 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and Saturday 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM. If none of these times work for you, we also show animals by appointment. Please call the shelter at (309) 797-6550 to schedule an appointment to see the animals available. The adoption fee for an adult cat is $40. This includes all vaccines, FIV/FeLV testing, rabies, spay/neuter, microchip, flea treat, and worming.
