Annie

Emails are answered in a timely fashion. Please check your spam if you do not receive a response. She will NOT be at our adoption events. Please email to arrange a convenient time to meet Annie. No unfenced pool. Annie was born in approximately 2013. She is a very sweet, affectionate dog who gets along with all other dogs. She is mostly potty trained with the occasional accident. Annie is currently about 14.5 pounds. Annie has a left Atrium leaky valve and an enlarged heart, which has been managed well with medication. She will need to remain on this medication for the rest of her life and have regular follow-up visits with a cardiologist to monitor her progress. Annie was rescued from the shelter. Her owner had moved and left her with friends who did not want her so they passed her along to someone else, who also didn’t want her and they left her outside, so they didn’t have to deal with her. Annie was good at escaping from their yard and would often be found wandering the neighborhood. She was finally picked up by Animal Control and brought to the shelter. Owners were contacted and relinquished Annie to the shelter.

Popcorn

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Hi there, I'm Popcorn, your friendly, goofy, gentle, curious, brave, mellow, funny, smart, playful, energetic, loyal, and a bit shy canine buddy. My journey to the shelter is quite a hilarious tale. You see, I was on a mission to dig to China from my backyard. I dug and dug until I popped up in the neighbor's yard. They were having a barbeque, and I thought, 'Why not join?' Turns out, they weren't as welcoming as I'd hoped. So, here I am, ready for new adventures with you. I'm a great listener, a superb comedian, and I promise to be the most loyal friend you'll ever have. Adopt me and let's make our own fun stories together! I'm a very outgoing boy and love playing with my kennel mates and friends. I am a little hesitant when I first meet people because I'm not sure if I can trust them. I need a quiet home where I can take my time to build confidence and trust. As you can see, I have a cherry eye. It doesn't bother me and can be surgically fixed. To adopt this dog, please fillout an application at www.adoggie4you.org. He was born around 12/01/2018 and weighs 21 pounds. This dog is currently in Texas; however, it can be transported to Washington, Portland (Oregon), Minneapolis, Milwaukee, Chicago, Des Moines, Omaha, Cincinnati, Lexington KY or all along the East Coast. If transported, there is an additional transport fee of $225. We do not transport to Rhode Island or Massachusetts due to their regulations.

Zorro

Zorro is our longest resident at DAWS and has been here for four years. During that time, this 70 lb. six-year-old shepherd mix has been working very hard on training and we believe his time has come to find his furever home! Back in 2019, when Zorro first arrived to DAWS after being saved from a high kill shelter in Kentucky, he began developing some behavioral challenges, making it difficult to find him the right home. Through extensive training, Zorro has proved himself to be a pup that can develop solid friendships with humans, and even befriend select dogs. Zorro has been trained using treats and he eagerly sits, lies down and gives a paw on command. He’s done very well with car rides. He has enjoyed many hikes, walks, and play-time with his volunteer team. Time and time again, he has shown what a good boy he is, he just needs to find that special person! With a dog like Zorro, he will need a very specific adopter... Zorro Owner Requirements: • Experienced dog owner • Adult-only home with no kids or future children • Must be the only pet in the home • Has to have an understanding of positive reinforcement training • House with a fenced yard of at least 6 ft. • Willing to slowly introduce Zorro to people close to the family and educate them on Zorro’s do’s & don'ts • Come and meet Zorro multiple times If you think you can be the hero that Zorro needs, please complete our online application. Here is the link to the app: https://daws.org/daws-forms/ Zorro’s adoption fee is discounted for veterans that are members of the organization Pets for Patriots. The discounted fee for him is $100. Buddy

Buddy is approx 8 years old. His owner died and the family threw him outside to fend for himself. All he wanted was to get back in a neighbors house. Neighbors kept feeding him but that was all. He started feeling bad and looking bad and they called for rescue. Buddy has tooth resorption. He had to go to Metropolitan Veterinary Specialist to a dentist to have his mouth taken care of. He will need yearly cleanings with a vet that has a mouth xray machine. Buddy is 14 lbs. He is easily bullied. He would do great as an only cat. He loves to play. He is NOT a lap cat but will lay next to you. Buddy is not needy. He entertains himself and doesn't need to follow you around etc. He loves soft food but doesn't rush to eat. He enjoys yawning and stretching in the morning. He is so precious. He is fiv positive, which should not cause problems. He has been felv/fiv tested, shots, microchipped, and neutered. Tazz

Tazz has a condition called stomatitis. He did have all of his teeth removed; except for his canines. There is daily medication involved and routine vet visits needed. He is a sweet boy that would do best in a single cat household. Adoption fee is $140 for cats, $260 for a pair. The fee includes FeLV/FIV testing, age appropriate FVRCP shots, spay/neuter, and Rabies vaccination. Visiting the shelter is a primary condition for adoption. The ability to download, print, and fill out an application at home to bring with you is merely a convenience. Adoptions will not be done online, over the phone, or through FaceBook. All adoptions are done at the shelter. As per the adoption agreement, for their own health and safety, Kitty City cats are to be indoor cats only. And, under no circumstances is a Kitty City cat to be maimed by "declawing".. Sonny

Meet Sonny, a handsome 6-year-old Pit Bull Terrier mix weighing in at 57 pounds. Sonny originally arrived at PCAS in 2019 as a stray and was adopted fairly quickly by his loving family. Unfortunately he was returned to us near the end of last year due to zero fault of his own. Sonny is just as sweet as can be, he’s attentive and caring and gentle. Sonny’s soft brown eyes perfectly capture his affectionate nature and temperament - he’s totally content just sitting next to or leaning on you, he just wants to be close to you and involved in your everyday activities! Sonny has some anxieties around other dogs, so at this time we are requiring he be an only pet in order to set him up for success. Sonny has previously been around kids of various ages. and was said to do well with them. He was tested for heartworms and Lyme and was negative for both. Sonny is neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, and ready to go home.

Twixxie

Are you in search of some classic Tortitude? Look no further-I'm Twixxie, and I'm ready to find my forever home! It might take me a bit to warm up, but once I do, I'll be your little purr bug. I'll be in your face, by your side, and always following you around. Thanks to my foster family, I've gained confidence and truly come into my own. I've also become quite the talker-you'll hear from me at feeding time, when I want attention, and just to chat. I'm still not a fan of other kitties, and at this point, I doubt that will change. I might be okay with one other cat, but only if they respect my space and stay out of my bubble. But let's be clear: I'm not here to be a companion for your kitty. Absolutely no dogs in my space, please-they are not my cup of tea. Things I love? You. Cat trees, soft beds, cubby holes, some toys (I can be a bit selective), and, of course, those oh-so-delicious treats! I'm a food enthusiast who adores canned food and treats-I'd do almost anything for them. I like to graze on dry food throughout the day. I'm used to older kids (12 years and up) and, while I'm definitely not a fan of dogs, I can tolerate them as long as they leave me alone. I don't like being grabbed, having my tail pulled, or being forced to sit in anyone's lap. I'm looking for a family with patience who isn't gone 24/7. If you're not into lap cats, talkative kitties in your face, or a cat who sleeps in your bed, I might not be the best fit. But if you want a loyal, independent companion with a dash of Tortitude, I'm your girl. I'm spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, and tested, and I'm ready to go home with you. My estimated birth date is 9/15/2018, and my adoption fee is $100.

peluche

Peluche has been a loving and good dog while with us however he was involved in a unsupervised biting of a toddler in the face who reached for his face causing damage requiring stitches. With that said we will not be placing him in a home with young children/toddlers. We would prefer an adult only home. He is around 18 lb

Jefferson

Jefferson was brought into the shelter after he was following a woman to and from work every day. He was on the streets for a long time and is now getting used to the life inside. He definitely has a very sweet side to him, but can't let go some of his street instincts. He would do best in a home where he would have a catio so he can look out and see the nature that he loves so much. Jefferson is FIV positive but he is doing well with other cats and lives with other FIV negative cats. He is FeLV negative. Come visit Jefferson and our other cats during public hours. No appointment necessary.
