Badger

Meet Badger! Badger is an adorable young male mixed-breed puppy who came to us from the Warm Springs reservation in Oregon's north-central Jefferson County. They were found abandoned outside, and so with the help of some rescuers/concerned community members, all 9 puppies were taken in to be saved. However, due to an illness only 7 of the 9 survived. Without knowing the parents, it's difficult to say and we cannot guarantee their mature weight/size or breeds, but they appear to be a mix of Shepherd and Siberian Husky, which is a very common mix of breeds in that area. They were just days old when they were found, and so upon coming into SDH's foster program, they spend the last few weeks getting a bit bigger and stronger while being fed from a bottle until they were old enough to start on solid foods. They're in separate temporary foster homes here in Bend/Central Oregon, and so we'll continue to update their profiles with more foster updates and new photos as we get them, so stay tuned! As with all young pups, they can benefit from having someone who's home most of the day who can tend to all of their puppy needs, and so they can begin learning through things like socialization, basic obedience training and boundary-setting, as well as getting some good play time, exercise and enrichment/mental stimulation, which are all essential for the growth and development of a maturing young puppy. Before getting adopted officially, each dog will be seen by our veterinarian for their wellness exam to ensure they're spayed/neutered, are up to date on their shots, and are microchipped, which is all covered in the adoption fee. Submit your online adoption application through our website today to not miss out on this opportunity to bring this pup home for a 3-day home trial towards their adoption. Will you be my hero? The first step to adopting a dog from SDH is to complete the adoption application. First click on the "OUR DOGS tab up above, and then click on the orange colored "Fill out an Adoption Application here" button to start the process). Once submitted, please expect 3-5 business days or sooner for processing and to hear back from us. Once you are pre-approved, your adoption application will remain on file with us for 1 year and it can go towards multiple adoptions within that 1 year time frame before it expires. To finalize an adoption you must sign the adoption contract and pay the full adoption fee of $550. The adoption fee helps cover our costs. On average, per dog, it costs SDH between $500-$700 for vetting/medical/sterilization, transport and other rescue related expenses. All dogs are rescued and do not transport to SDH until they are healthy and ready to be adopted. All dogs are examined by a veterinarian before they fly, which includes sterilization whenever possible, given standard vaccines and rabies (if age appropriate). Most dogs are sterilized before they come into our program, however if this is not the case we will spay/neuter them once they arrive at our cost. Upon their arrival, all dogs are seen for a wellness exam by SDH's medical team. Once the adoption is finalized, any further medical care or treatment will not be covered by SDH, unless discussed prior with our medical team. Lulu

Meet Lulu! Lulu is an adorable adult Cocker Spaniel girl who came to us as a local surrender here in Bend, Oregon. She takes a bit to warm up to new people, but her sweet side starts to come out over a little time, and so someone who's home most of the day and is patient with her, will be best. She does well around other dogs, but prefers ones that are friendly, calm, gentle or one that is more indifferent and will give her space. This girl is suitable for a kid-free home or one where the kids are older and more dog-savvy. She currently is being fostered in a home that has several other dogs from small to extra large, 2 cats and older kids. River

Meet River! River is an adorable sweet and young male mixed breed pup who would love a home with other dogs he can play with, or just an adult or two. Originally from Oklahoma, this happy boy is just delighted to now be in the Pacific Northwest! He loves to run and chew on sticks, and he's even starting to play fetch with any big stick he can find while on neighborhood walks and at the park. He loves going on walks and is great on the leash (he doesn't love a harness yet). River is so smart: He has a few commands almost mastered-sit, down, go potty (!!), off, and wait. He is potty trained, and knows exactly where his spot is in the yard, and crate trained, sleeping through the night and spending chunks of time in there during the day. He would love nothing more than to be with someone who is active and can spend time training him, teaching him how to be an amazing dog, and then cuddling on the couch for hours in the evening. River is such a wonderful pup and I know he's going to make an amazing trail and adventure buddy! Marcie

Meet Marcie! Named after the Charlie Brown characters, Marcie is an adorable little girl who's one of 9 beagle/beagle mix puppies that were born while in our custody. Their Momma Lucy, who was pregnant at the time, and dozens of other lucky pups, landed in Oregon all the way from a shelter we work with down in Norman, Oklahoma, thanks once again to our non-profit transport partner Dog is My Copilot! There are 6 boys and 3 girls, and let me tell you, they have received tons of attention and interest already since they were born just from featuring them on our social media alone. More than half now have pending adoption reservations, but there are still a few remaining! Will you be my hero? steps to adopting (OUR ADOPTABLE DOGS ARE IN SEPARATE TEMPORARY FOSTER HOMES BETWEEN BEND/CENTRAL OREGON AND THE GREATER PORTLAND AREA. THEREFORE, MEET AND GREETS ARE NOT DONE AT OUR FACILITY. TO LEARN MORE, PLEASE SUBMIT YOUR ADOPTION APPLICATION ONLINE AND OUR ADOPTION PROGRAM MANAGER WILL REACH OUT TO YOU WITH FURTHER INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO MEET YOUR NEW PUP!) The first step to adopting a dog from SDH is to complete the adoption application. All known issues are disclosed to the best of our ability prior to finalizing the adoption.
