Sophia Maria- barn cat

Sophia is a barn cat for adoption. Doesn't want anything to do with people. But is only a year and half. is spayed, wormed, flea treated and vaccinated, but just is not going to be social. We hope to find a good barn to have her go to. Must be able to keep confined in new home for a week so she knows where her food and litter box is. Also once released she will be able to have safe shelter with daily feeding/water. She could be placed into home that would give her complete access and freedom to get familiar with others. All barns must have shelter and provide food and water at all times. Adoption fee negociable, but $25 requested.

Pia

Pia is a large New Zealand White who was surrendered at the shelter because her former adopters had to return to their home country. Because she was scared and in need of grooming, a fosterer took her in to socialize her and get her cleaned up. Pia is now ready for adoption to a loving, quiet home without other pets or children. She loves to be petted, and deserves to be treated like a princess. She has been spayed. For more information and/or to set up a meeting with Pia, please email nyc.metro.rabbits@gmail.com.

Libby (5+ yr at shelter)

Libby is a beautiful and chunky ABD mix who was part of a litter of dumped puppies when she was very, very young. She was in terrible shape with a horrific infection in one of her eyes which caused her to lose sight in that eye. She kept the actual eyeball, but is blind in her left eye. It is non-painful and doesn't bother her. Libby was adopted to a terrific home when she was a baby, but when she was about 1.5 years old, her human mother developed severe and life threatening health problems and could no longer care for Libby. So, she is now back with us and is looking for a new home. Libby is a big girl, and while she was very overwhelmed when she came back to the shelter, she has adjusted very well. She can be a bit shy with people she does not know, but warms up very quickly with treats and kind words. She LOVES to play, LOVES toys and wants to be with her person. Her blindness in one eye does NOT cause her any problems and she gets around just as good as a dog who has sight in both eyes. Libby would do best in a single-person household with no other pets. She tends to be protective of her person and does not do well sharing him or her with others. We recognize that Libby's size, protectiveness, and bad eye will make it difficult for her to find a home, but we sure want folks to know what a great dog she is! She is housebroken. Please come meet Libby today!

Trey

Trey is a handsome white and black cat. Trey and his litter mates were caught in a volunteer’s yard and brought to The Buddy Foundation in October of 2014. He’s a long-legged, laid-back, cool dude who’s a bit shy, but loves to be petted and brushed. He can be quite friendly once he gets to know you, but he does not like being picked up. He also gets along well with all of his many roommates. Trey can be found in room 2.

Bessie

Can you guess how Bessie got her name?!?! She has unique, cool black and white markings like a cow! Bessie is extremely shy and needs somebody who is willing to work with her to help her feel comfortable. She will flinch when you first pet her, but she eventually realizes she actually enjoys it and even purrs at times. Bessie's estimated date of birth is 4/1/2015. **PLEASE READ CAREFULLY** If you are interested in applying for the potential adoption of this pet, and to expedite the process, please read about our adoption and shelter visitation policy on our website at www.animalserviceleagueny.org. You will also find our fillable adoption application there, which is required for all potential adoptions prior to shelter visits. Inquiries sent through Petfinder ARE NOT applications, and we will not respond to inquiries received via Petfinder. Please send a direct email to info@animalserviceleagueny.org if you have a specific question about this pet that is not answered in the bio, or if you have a general question that is not answered for you on our website. Please do not send emails asking if a pet is still available – if you are viewing the profile, then the pet is still available. Thank you!

Luna

09/26/2015 Luna and her sisters were just spayed and we retested them for FIV since they are almost 6 months old. They all tested negative and are healthy as can be. I am so glad we saved these three as I knew they would be negative once they were older. Please help us find Luna the home she deserves. Luna is one of three. She is very friendly and has lots of energy. Luna and her sisters have been with us for about a month now and are ready to go to their new homes. Luna is the most outgoing of the litter. Luna must either be adopted with one of her sisters or go to a home that has another cat present. Luna is very playful and active and needs someone to keep her out of trouble. Luna is about 8-9 weeks old and is mainly black with a small spot of white on her chest. She is up to date with vaccinations, dewormed and tested negative for Feline Leukemia but tested a slight positive for FIV. She will need to be retested at 6 months again as the FIV testing isn't 100% accurate until this time. We've seen cats initially test positive and then at 6 months test negative. Luna is healthy and happy and ready for her new family to take her home. Online Application Form All cats are up to date on vaccinations, dewormed, tested for FeLV and FIV, and are spayed or neutered if they are 5 months of age or older. Kittens adopted under the age of 5 months will come back to Itty Bitty Kitty, Inc. to be spayed or neutered as part of our adoption agreement. All of this care is included in our adoption fee of only $75.00!

Dexter

Dexter is 9 years old and weighs 60 lbs. If you’d like to meet this pet and apply for adoption, please visit our website www.safeplaceforanimals.com for our current shelter visiting hours and details on our adoption process. • Safe Place for Animals does not do same-day adoptions and adoptions are not on a first come, first serve basis. • Adoption applications are available for submission in-person only. • Applying to adopt a pet from Safe Place for Animals does not guarantee adoption approval. Each pet is unique and they all have different personalities, temperaments and needs. So we work very hard to make sure that each pet is matched with the individual or family that is going to be the best fit for both the pet and adopter. Therefore, Safe Place for Animals does not do same-day adoptions and adoptions are not on a first come, first serve basis. Each pet receives many applications so we thoroughly review each one, including doing veterinary checks and personal reference checks. There is no definitive timeline on the adoption process; it can vary by pet. Applying to adopt a pet does not guarantee adoption approval. We will contact you if your application has been approved. Those not approved may not be contacted due to the volume of applications and the time limitations of our volunteer staff. However, you are welcome to contact us to follow-up on your application status if you have not heard anything by a week after applying.

Brooklyn

PLEASE DO NOT CONTACT THE RESCUE THROUGH PETFINDER, VISIT PITCREW.ORG AND COMPLETE ADOPTION APPLICATION. *All of our rescue dogs are spayed/neutered, up-to-date on vaccinations and microchipped prior to their adoption.* Brooklyn is an adult with the temperament of a puppy! She is simply stunning and has a goofy personality. Brooklyn came to us from the Bay Area where her time was running out in the shelter due to space. Unfortunately there is no such thing as a no-kill shelter. All shelters have to euthanize for space as well as test dogs for their adoptability. Many of the temperament testing is extremely stringent and perfectly good animals fail due to the stress they are under or the environment they are in. Brooklyn was saved just in time! She is just GORGEOUS and truly one-of-a-kind. If it's attention you want, just take this girly for a walk around the block 🙂 Everyone comments on her unique colors and look. Brooklyn was a bit excited when she first arrived but she has settled in quite nicely. She wants to play with all the dogs around her and has shown no signs of dislike for anyone or anything. In fact, she would play constantly if you would allow her too, ha! But on the other hand, she has shown her foster momma that she is good for cuddling too!! She would love nothing more than to play by day and snuggle by night. She could defiantly benefit from an experienced owner to continue working on her manners as well as handle her strength and her energy. Don't let her small size fool you, she is a tank of brute strength! She is learning to walk gently on her leash and most of the time she just wants to play with it, haha! Brooklyn is fully crate trained, will walk in on command and lay down. She will not make a peep and waits patiently to be let out. Brooklyn also knows “down”and "shake"; She is super well socialized and would do great in any environment although her playful antics and curious nature can certainly annoy some other dogs. She is a staff favorite at the Vet's office too!! If you think Brooklyn will be a good fit for your family visit us at pitcrew.org and fill out an application form, we look forward to hearing from you 🙂

Box Turtles in NM

PLEASE READ THE DESCRIPTION BELOW COMPLETELY BEFORE CONTACTING THE EMAIL ADDRESS BELOW. Do not email MATTS directly. You must contact the email below. We are ornate, three-toed, and desert box turtles (Terrapene ornata and Terrapene carolina triunguis) for adoption in the Albuquerque, NM, area. We love earthworms, and we are eating the diet recommended here, but you can use Mazuri or Zoo Med Growth Formula aquatic turtle food as the base of the diet (always soaked in water of course): http://www.boxturtlefacts.org/Feeding_North_American_Box_Turtles.pdf We can live indoors all year, or we can live outside in the summer and indoors in the winter, but three-toed box turtles CANNOT hibernate in NM (we could hibernate in southern MD and points south, or in Texas). In some cases, the ornate box turtles can hibernate outside in NM. A backyard enclosure MUST BE SCREENED IN completely to KEEP OUT RACCOONS AND RATS. Even if you've never seen a raccoon in Albuquerque, it's a good bet that they are there, and ornate box turtles are like fine dining for a raccoon. An enclosure should have lots of room for exploring and digging and soaking in a water pan or shallow pond designed just for box turtles. If we're kept in the Albuquerque area, and kept outside, our pen should be watered regularly. For our indoor winter pen, or if we're indoors permanently, a "turtle table" would be a good home, and it should at least 8 square feet of space, along with a substrate such as aged hardwood bark mulch, a water pan, artificial plants for hiding, and a heat light and UVB light over one end. Here is a way to make an inexpensive, easy indoor box turtle habitat. PLEASE READ THIS. http://nebula.wsimg.com/91b04dd9708243802568b6103ac1de41?AccessKeyId=A3E784782F81D21389AD&disposition=0&alloworigin=1 Here is an excellent article on outdoor habitats. http://www.boxturtlefacts.org/Planting_Box_Turtle_Outdoor_Habitats.pdf To learn more about box turtles, visit http://www.boxturtlesite.org/ or pick up a copy of Box Turtles by Tess Cook, available in most pet stores. To find instructions for a simple backyard box turtle enclosure, visit http://www.billsboxturtles.com Another great website is http://www.boxturtlefacts.org/Articles.html Shipping is possible IF the temperature allows it, and if adopters pay for shipping (usually $80-$100 depending on your location) and it is legal in your state to have one of these subspecies of box turtle. Our turtles come with a no sale/no trade adoption contract. If considering adopting a box turtle from NM, PLEASE EMAIL sandybarnett95@gmail.com and make sure to INCLUDE YOUR CITY and STATE in the email. Residents of NJ require a permit for turtles. NY residents need a DEC permit to keep North American box turtles. Ornate box turtles ARE legal to keep in Pennsylvania and Georgia.

Tarzan

Tarzan. Date of Birth: March 23, 2015 When I was just 10 days old, I found myself at the pound! I didn't know what that was, but I really didn't want to be there. I heard all kinds of noises and other kitties and even dogs! I'm sure they didn't want to be there either. Before I knew it, a kind lady from Save A Purrfect Cat Rescue came and bailed me out! It's been wonderful living with her, but she promised to find me a home of my very own. I have a sister, well she's not really my sister, but I love her like one! My foster mom promised we would be adopted together. Her name's Vanessa and also listed on this site. Come meet us! We'll be waiting.
