Taquito *Arriving 9/21*

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Taquito was found as a stray and he is so happy to be in a home again. All he really wants is to be close to his person. This sweet boy has a laid-back personality and loves to curl up and nap near you when you're home. He's been great with other dogs, snuggling without any issues, though he might get a little growly if they try to share his food bowl. This is easily managed by feeding him separately from other dogs in the house! Taquito is mostly potty trained, but if left for too long, he's fine using a potty pad. He's not much of a barker-his calm and quiet nature make him an ideal companion. He was pretty underweight when rescued, but with some love and care, he's on the mend. Taquito is a total cuddlebug and would thrive in a home where someone can be around as much as possible to keep him company. Taquito is from Texas. They arrive in Minnesota on 9/21/2024 and will need to be picked up from the Ruff Start Rescue office in Princeton, MN between the hours of 9am and noon. Martin *Arriving 9/21*

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. This is Martin, an 8-year-old Chihuahua/Jack Russell Terrier mix with a bit of a grumpy old man vibe. Maybe he's just a guy who knows what he likes and expects nothing less. When he's tired, he puts himself to bed and when he sleeps he sleeps hard. It is best to wake him slowly. While he's still working on his potty training, Martin is a low-energy, easygoing guy who loves to cuddle and play in spurts. When he is happy or excited he does the cutest dance. He does well with other small dogs and adults, but seems to prefer the company of women. Martin needs some time and patience to adjust to a new home, but once he warms up, he's incredibly sweet. Though he might be protective and reactive to strangers, Martin calms down quickly and is eager to please. He's an escape artist, so he needs to be leashed even in a fenced yard. Martin enjoys car rides, toys, and can get vocal when excited, likely making him a better fit for a home without shared walls. Give Martin a few days, and you'll discover a loving, loyal, and sometimes protective companion. Martin is from Texas. They arrive in Minnesota on 9/21/2024 and will need to be picked up from the Ruff Start Rescue office in Princeton, MN between the hours of 9am and noon. Maybelline *Arriving 9/21*

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Mabelline is a sweet puppy who is already showing signs of becoming a calm and low-energy dog. She's likely to grow into the perfect lap dog, as she loves to snuggle and enjoys quiet time on the couch. As a stray, she's still adjusting to home life, but her Texas foster can already tell she's incredibly intelligent. The way she looks at you when you talk to her is truly unique-it's like she's hanging on every word. Mabelline's routine includes a morning potty trip followed by a meal and a short walk or a game of fetch. She isn't housebroken yet, so she goes outside every two hours, but she's making great progress. She's crate-trained, sleeping peacefully through the night after just a few minutes of fussing. During the day, she enjoys resting in her bed near her foster mom's office chair, and she loves to be held and even gives little "hugs" with her front paws. Though she was initially shy and timid, Mabelline has blossomed into a loving, curious companion. She's rarely vocal, only barking when she's excited or overstimulated. She's had some exposure to cats but tends to chase them, so a cat-free home might be best for her. She's very responsive to commands, including "sit" and "no," and would thrive with someone who is home more often to give her the love and attention she craves. Mabelline is a loving, smart puppy who will be a great fit for anyone looking for a cuddly companion that enjoys quiet time and a few short walks a day. Maybelline is from Texas. Simone *Arriving 9/21*

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Simone, or as her foster calls her, "Sassy Simone," is a playful and energetic puppy with a zest for life. She's always on the go, bopping around the yard, chewing on just about everything (watch out for your flower beds!), and constantly seeking out bugs and frogs to play with. She's in her chewing phase, which is very typical at her age. She's learning what's okay to gnaw on though with consistent redirection! Simone and her brother, Stephen, love to roughhouse together, and she even tries to engage the foster family's 19-year-old rat terrier, Penny, in play. While Penny isn't always interested, Simone knows when to back off and eventually calms down to roll over and play gently. This happy-go-lucky puppy can wear herself out with all that fun and then just plop down wherever she is, stretching out for a nap. While she's a cuddle bug at times, Simone doesn't sit still for long-she's always ready to get back into the action. She would thrive in a home with kids or other pets, though with enough attention, she could do well as a solo pup, too. Simone was rescued from the shelter with her brother, Stephen, and has come a long way since being full of worms and a bit skittish. Now she's a happy, healthy pup who's eager to learn and explore. She's not a big barker, though she can get a bit rowdy when toys are involved. She LOVES toys. Simone simply needs a loving home that can provide her with the attention and affection she craves and the training she needs and she will continue to grow into her fullest potential! Simone is from Texas. They arrive in Minnesota on 9/21/2024 and will need to be picked up from the Ruff Start Rescue office in Princeton, MN between the hours of 9am and noon. Stephen *Arriving 9/21*

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Stephen, affectionately called "Fat Stephen" by his Texas foster, is a bundle of fun with a big personality. This playful pup loves nothing more than to have his tummy rubbed and to romp around with his sister, Simone. Stephen is curious, loves the outdoors, and is currently in his chewing phase, so he's always on the lookout for something to gnaw on-especially toys. This phase is typical for puppies his age and with consistent training he is working through it! Every morning, Stephen runs straight to wake up Penny, the family's 19-year-old mostly blind rat terrier, hoping to play. While Penny doesn't always appreciate his enthusiasm, Stephen is persistent and just wants to be everyone's friend. He and Simone are currently best friends, constantly playing and keeping each other entertained, so a home with another dog would be ideal for Stephen, though he would adjust well to a loving, active household even without a furry sibling. When it's time to come inside from playing, Stephen isn't in any rush-he loves to roll around in the yard and sometimes needs to be picked up to come in. He's got a habit of falling asleep in all kinds of silly positions, often on his back with all four legs in the air. Despite his energy, he enjoys being held for a bit, though he can't sit still for too long before he's eager to get back to playing. Stephen is not food aggressive, and while he might bark if Simone has a toy or treat he wants, he's generally not a big barker. His foster describes him as full of love and ready to find a home that gives him plenty of attention, a place to play, and lots of tummy rubs. Stephen would thrive in a home with a yard where he can explore and roll around to his heart's content! Stephen is from Texas. They arrive in Minnesota on 9/21/2024 and will need to be picked up from the Ruff Start Rescue office in Princeton, MN between the hours of 9am and noon. Betsy *Arriving 9/21*

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Betsy was found tied to a tree in Houston after someone decided they were done with her. She's understandably still cautious around new people, but once you've earned her trust, Betsy becomes a loyal companion and top-notch cuddler. She does well with other dogs after proper introductions and has been around children of all ages, though she seems to do best with older, more respectful kids. With her short legs and laid-back personality, Betsy isn't going to drag you on long hikes. Her ideal day is pretty simple: some yard time in the sun, food, and a good cuddle on the couch. Her sweet smile will melt your heart once she's comfortable. Betsy can bark at new stimuli but calms down quickly. A quieter home might suit her best, as she could get overwhelmed in a high-energy environment. All she really wants is a soft spot to call her own and someone to love! Is that you?! Betsy is from Texas. They arrive in Minnesota on 09/21/2024 and will need to be picked up from the Ruff Start Rescue office in Princeton, MN between the hours of 4:30pm and 8pm. Matilda *Arriving 9/21*

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Meet Matilda, a lively young Australian Shepherd puppy with a heart full of love and energy. She adores everyone she meets and thrives in the company of other dogs, especially her foster siblings-a young lab mix and a chihuahua. Matilda's journey began with a rough start; she was abandoned by her previous owner and left to fend for herself as a small puppy. Thanks to the kindness of neighbors and a rescue group, she was eventually placed in a foster home where she blossomed. Matilda is the perfect companion for an active person or family. She loves car rides, playing fetch, splashing in water, and tossing toys in the air. While she's affectionate and playful, her vocal nature makes her better suited for a home without shared walls. If you're looking for a fun-loving, goofy, and intelligent dog who will keep you on your toes, Matilda is ready to bring endless joy to your life. She's eagerly awaiting the day she finds her next adventure and new home-could it be with you? Matilda is from Texas. Trixie *Arriving 9/21*

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Trixie's story began when she was surrendered by her owners, after spending much of her life outdoors. Luckily for her a good samaritan convinced the owners to surrender her. This sweet senior dog is now relishing the indoor comforts she truly deserves. Trixie is an easy-going, low-energy girl who loves nothing more than lounging around the house, sleeping, and chewing on her favorite bones. She's not too interested in toys, but bones? Those are her jam. She's even got a cute little army crawl she does when she's excited to see you! Living with 10 other dogs, Trixie has proven herself to be gentle and affectionate with both big and small dogs. She does have a bit of a growly side when she's enjoying a bone and another dog gets too close, but she's not mean-just a girl who knows what she likes. She gets along well with adults and seniors, making her a versatile companion. Trixie's transition to indoor living has been smooth. She loves to cuddle up on the couch or in bed with her humans and enjoys all the attention she can get. She's a bit unsure of new people at first, but she warms up quickly. Trixie's had a rough start in life, coming to us in pretty bad shape with fleas, a severed tail, and pellets in her from being shot at. But she's proven to be resilient and has embraced her new life with open paws. Crate trained, great in the car, and a perfect lap pet, Trixie would be an excellent addition to any home looking for a loving, low-energy companion. She'd do best in a home without a lot of starirs, ideally with someone who's around often to give her the love and attention she craves. Trixie's not one for hiking or high-energy activities, but she'll be your loyal sidekick for car rides and cozy nights in. Trixie is ready to spend her golden years being pampered and loved. Could you be the one to give her the forever home she's been dreaming of? *This animal is a part of our "Seniors for Seniors" program where we offer senior adopters an opportunity to adopt an eligible pet at a discounted fee.* Adopting a senior dog is like getting a vintage car - it comes with character, a few extra quirks, and might need a bit more maintenance. Expect occasional tune ups at the vet for oil changes (aka meds), and embrace the fact that those 'normal lumps and bumps' are just part of the well-earned charm package! Ruff Start will share all known health information with adopters and recommendations to keep your senior dog in top shape. Trixie is from Texas. SquashBug *Arriving 9/21*

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Meet SquashBug, affectionately known as Bug, a 4-month-old Black Mouth Cur/Labrador mix with a heart full of love. He was living with his mother in the backyard of an empty house. He was happy, active and curious but not used to people. It took a while to win him over but now he is adapting well to indoor life. Bug had a tough start in life but has blossomed into a gentle, intelligent, and eager-to-please puppy in his foster home. He's a bit cautious around new people and situations, but once he feels safe, he's all about snuggles and affection. Bug gets along well with kids and his two large foster dog siblings. He thinks cats are fine, but he LOVES other dogs. Playing with them is his favorite activity. He also loves exploring and can't wait to try playing in the snow! He's working hard on potty training and is quickly learning that coming when called earns him treats-and he's pretty fast! After his first three months living outside as a stray, he doesn't want to go potty in the house and has not had one accident. Right now he is going outside about every 3-4 hours during the day and he goes potty on a leash. He has made it all the way through the night, but if he needs to go during the night he just whimpers a bit. Crate training isn't his favorite, but he loves mealtime and curling up in your lap for some quality cuddle time. Bug would thrive in a home with a friendly companion dog to help him build confidence. If you're looking for a sweet, shy, and loving pup who's ready to blossom even more with a little patience and love, Bug is your guy! SquashBug is from Texas. McKinsey *Arriving 9/21*

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. McKinsey is a smart and ADORABLE little puppy with loads of potential. Already catching on to commands like "go potty," she's showing signs of being an easy-to-train dog as she grows up. Her days right now are simple: potty, eat, potty, play, sleep, and repeat. She *loves* her toys, especially balls, and is always up for a game of tug-of-war. If left alone with nothing to do, she gets a bit restless-so keeping her busy is key! Her playful energy even extends to her "bear-like" playtime stance, with her front paws coming at you, ready to rumble. McKinsey came into her Texas foster home in decent condition, although she had some scabs on her neck and shoulders, which are healing nicely with care. She's a baby, so she's still figuring things out, but she doesn't bark much and has settled into a good routine at bedtime, sleeping through the night. She has a playful nature and nothing seems to scare her. She'll need a family that understands her size and typical puppy behaviors like mouthing. One big thing you should know is they are heartworm positive - but please don't let that scare you away from adopting them! After they undergo treatment for their condition they will be completely healthy again, and heartworm is not a contagious disease. Because they need treatment, they are available exclusively through Ruff Start's Foster to Adopt (FTA) program. Click here to learn more about this program. They will get heartworm treatment at one of Ruff Start's partner veterinary clinics in St. Cloud, so their foster will need to be comfortable getting them to and from the appointments. Treatment will consist of three injections: the first will be roughly 30 days after they enter rescue. Then, the second and third injections will happen 30 days after the first. When they are undergoing treatment, they should be on activity 'restrictions' which just means they should relax in their crate or cuddle with you. Click here to learn more about heartworm disease, which is transmitted by mosquitoes. If you are interested in getting to know this animal better, please fill out an adoption application. Coconut

Coconut and her sisters Marshmallow, Dumpling and Buttons, were found alone in an abandoned house. They had a bit of a rough start but Coconut is now a beautiful, energetic kitten. Coconut (and her partner in crime, Marshmallow) love to be cuddled. When she is ready to play, Coconut will squirm to let you know cuddle time is over. She is a bit mischievous too, which makes her even more fun to watch and play with. She loves playing with her toys, her siblings and her human. Coconut loves napping with her sisters, in a kitty pile. She would love to be adopted with one of her sisters, but would also do well adopted alone. She would do well in a home with older children who know how to handle kittens. Just give her lots of playtime and toys and attention...and, oh yes, treats! She will come running if she hears the treat bag being shaken. Coconut has been spayed, micro-chipped, tested neg for FIV and FeLV, de-wormed and treated for fleas, received FVRCP vaccines and is due very soon for her rabies vaccine. Do you have a safe and loving home for this little one?
