A Dogs Way Home Rescue was formed in 2018 when we became aware of the extent of the incredible abuse and neglect of animals in South Texas. 2 gorgeous black dogs from our local Shelter started our journey from fostering to rescue and transport.

Anyone interested in our dogs must be at least 21. We are only able to adopt to homes within a reasonable driving distance of the dog's foster home (15-20 miles from zip code 75074). We do not adopt on first-come-first-served basis, we want to make sure the dog is right for the family and vice versa based on what we know about the dog's personality, habits and behaviors.

KitKat's Mom needs to find her a home due family needs abroad with no one to look after KitKat for long periods of time. Traveling back and forth on long flights would not be fair to her. She would be happy to cat sit KitKat at her home when in the Bay Area, if her adopters are out of town or on vacation.
Here's what KitKat's owner says about her: "KitKat is a very gentle, sweet natured, happy cat. She is a house trained indoor cat who likes to hang out in a cat-safe garden. She has the sweetest nature and has never scratched or damaged any items or furniture. Although she is independent, she does follow me around from room to room, to keep me company. She sleeps all night, and can be left alone in the house during the day.
Her favorite things include being brushed and stroked. She loves company and will follow people. Loves scratching posts and chasing small toys. Likes a piece of carpet to sit on her ledges and hideout. She loves spending time in the garden, which is very safe, so she can explore happily all day. She rolls over and stretches while being groomed so you do not miss anywhere. She is happiest when people are at home, will follow you and wait for you to go to bed before she settles down for the night. She loves sleeping and sleeps through the night. Of course, she loves jumping into any size of empty box! She plays hide and seek too! if you pretend to hide around a corner, she will sneak up quietly and find you. KitKat will sit happily in the garden, chase flies, and pounce on twigs, or anything she can make into toys. She loves watching the birds, but does not pursue them.
She is always inside if no one is home. When outside, she's never tried to climb the fence (it is quite tall ) This is considered a "cat safe" outdoor area. She's allowed to come in and out of the house whenever she wants. She has not been exposed to street traffic or cars so if going out beyond a Catio or Cat Safe Fenced area she would be best in a cat backpack and/or using a harness and lead, being 100% supervised at all times."
KitKat has not been around other cats or dogs. I think she would be fine with respectful children and would love the attention, and being played with.
She would come with all the supplies, toys, and the PetSafe ScoopFree electric kitty litter box etc."
We are seeking a quiet home with someone there most of the time, who will be delighted to give her their the loving attention. A cat safe outdoor environment will be a plus.

Beans was found along the side of the road by a good samaritan at just 8 weeks young. When he came into the rescue, the vet said he was a she and it wasn't until his neuter that we found out he is, in fact, a boy. He loves head scratches and ear rubs and will give you kisses in return. Beans is a gentle soul of a bunny and may be timid at first. With plenty of time and thyme (his favorite herb), he will blossom into a super sweet boy.

Sunny came to us via a cruelty case a timid shy lil girl. Since then she has blossomed into a sweet and playful girl who just wants love. She is great with other dogs, has shown positive results around young kids as well, and is not food aggressive. She knows her way around a doggie door and is just as at home inside as outside. Brunhilda, affectionately called "Bruni" or "Brun-Brun" is a very sweet and loving purebred German pedigreed Silver British Shorthair. She had been with her breeder until she was almost 6 years when her breeder retired. Bruni has been with her present owner for 3 years. Her owner is now working full time and regrettably Bruni is left home alone most of the time.
She would flourish, unfolding into her delightful self, if she received more attention and interaction in her life. It is for this reason her owner is seeking a quiet environment for her with someone home most of the time for her to be with.
Bruni has a beautiful soft and fluffy silver tipped coat and likes to be brushed a couple of times a week. This sweet, petite, luminous green-eyed bundle of loveliness weighs in at just 6 lbs. She is described as very shy with new people and will retreat to one of her safe places when new people come into her home. So we think she will do exceptionally well with a shy cat experienced adopter to provide her with the safe out of the way places she needs while becoming accustomed to a new environment. She will not require isolation, rather we expect she will want to be interactive on her terms as she gains confidence in exploring her new surroundings.
Once Bruni gets to know you she will be all about wanting to be your affectionate baby. Bruni rubs against her loved ones and makes "biscuits' while being petted She craves tummy rubs and enjoys interactive playtime. Bruni does not want to be picked up and carried. She prefers to be an only cat and currently gets along just fine with a 4 year cat-friendly Lhasa Apso. A non threatening small dog may be a good companion for her.
This is a healthy, strictly indoor only cat, with no medical problems. Her vaccinations were up to date 3 years ago, so she may soon be due for boosters. Her latest Rabies Vaccine was 2/17/2024. She eats Purina Pro Plan wet and dry food and uses her litter box faithfully. She is really a very, very good girl !
