Macklemore
I'm Macklemore (or Mac for short!) - named for where I was found - at a local thrift shop. I'm an orange boy - but beyond that, not much is known about my history.
I'm cautious when exploring the unknown but once I feel safe - I stay close by and am always up for a pet or head scratch as you go about your activities. I'll sleep quietly next to you while you work - patiently waiting for your attention. I'm generous with the purring when you scratch my head or chest. You can pick me up or hold me on your lap for a minute, but I much prefer to walk with you to the next room or sit in the chair near you. I'm very unique in that while I purr - I never meow. (Narrator: This is the truth. Not one meow has been heard since I started fostering Mac!) I'm gentle when playing and like jumping for fast moving flying toys.
I'm a wonderful companion - both independent and supportive at the same time. Excellent litter box habits. I'm working on only using the scratching post. A lot of noise/activity makes me a bit anxious and I'll seek out a safe place (stealth mode of hiding under a blanket is my favorite). I currently don't live with any other pets. I do well by myself, but would also enjoy having another cat to play with.

Sophia is angel who had a rough start to her young life. She was run over by a truck and dumped in a ditch. A good Samaritan rescued her and did three months of physio therapy which did not correct her injuries. Sadly, for this girl to heal properly from the old injury, her leg needs to be amputated. Here's what her rescuer had to say about her:
Sophia was found 6 months ago (hit by a car) up North near Terrace. Sophia was brought to the SPCA, had a surgery and spay. Sophia is under a year old, was raised with other dogs and is good with other dogs. She is not acclimatized to the city. She is food motivated, never been bathed. She travels well, has been in a car for a 100+ km trip. She is very sweet and trainable, of course through positive reinforcement. WE are hoping to place Sophia in a foster to adopt home where she can recovery from her surgery booked for Tuesday, May 21.

Introducing Milo! Milo came all the way from Puerto Rico to find a forever home in New England, the land of pampered fur babies! A lack of spaying/neutering for a streak of years in PR lead to a huge influx of dogs lacking homes and care, so NELR and many other US rescues vow to help out whenever it is possible. Milo has been in the comfort and safety of a foster home for a few months, patiently waiting to be spoken for, so our PR rescue friends asked if we could help this precious little guy be seen. He's potty trained and loves human companionship! He's a little too curious about cats for their liking, but he gets on great with other dogs and loves playtime. His foster says he's very smart, loves enrichment games, and is playful and happy. He loves to cuddle and is delighting in having nice people to spend his time with.

Bear was surrendered to a Texas shelter amidst 111 other dogs - yes, 112 total dogs surrendered in one day 🙁 Surrendered dogs are first on the list to be euthanized (since there is no hold period to locate existing owners like with strays) so our rescue friends were frantically trying to network and save as many lives as possible at their overfull shelter. Bear was surrendered through no fault of his own, and is just an adorable, happy-go-lucky puppy that's ready to make you smile. He loves playtime and loves to hang out with his dog friends (a home with a playful sibling or lots of playdates would be so fun for him!). He loves all humans, but as he is still a pup and learning, we'd recommend slightly older/bigger kiddos. His tail is always wiggling and wagging; in fact, he knows the cue to sit but sometimes finds it hard to stay in position with all the wagging! 😀 He's super friendly and ready to fill your days with laughter!
